Just wanted to add a few comments about mr ramsays flagship restaurant. My wife took me there on Tuesday night to celebrate my birthday, and it was a true revelation. The service was exemplary as was the food. I enjoy eating out but my wife see these types of restaurants as a bit over blown and over rated but was totally won over by how friendly and accommodating they were.
The waiting staff, and the maitre d in particular could not be faulted. It is a fine balance to be attentive and over bearing, but they struck a happy medium. We were brought canapés with a glass of champagne which were lobster based which my wife does not like so after much appologies ( they didn't know she disliked seafood) they brought her a special canapé instead and I heard the waiter informing the rest of the waiting staff not to bring any other seafood to the table. The maitre d also said if she wanted the tasting menu they would make substations to make it more palatable to her.
The wine waiter was also wonderful and helped me choose a couple of glasses to go with my courses ( I am the first to admit in not a wine expert to say the least,)
After we had finished and were about to leave the maitre d made a point to come out and thank us for coming and then offered to show us the kitchen. We popped in and saw a very busy kitchen in full swing, which made my evening.
I could go on, but just thought I would credit where it was due. Only downside now is my wife said she would like to return for her birthday in January!

It seems such a shame that GRH has this as his flagship and then the whole empire is still in danger of collapsing.
A truly stunning place - wonderful service, food etc.
Could be very stuffy but the staff are pretty amazing in my opinion.
An 'experience' rather than just a meal. Stunning.
May not be everyone's cup of tea, but please give it a go if you can!
BTW, I don't particularly like GR and think she is a bit of a c0ck, but there can be no doubt over some of his staff, restaurants and the chefs that he has helped develop....

+1
I was there last Wednesday for lunch and it was exceptional. My OH has a dairy intolerance and they couldn't of been any more accommodating. Everything I ate was stunning. The banoffee soufflé was a masterpiece. I've tried making soufflés myself and I'm chuffed if the damn thing rises about an inch above the ramekin, but this was almost the height of the ramekin again!

I went to RHR last year - it was stunningly good food.
I've been lucky enough to have eaten in a few GR restaurants, the thing that always comes across is how accomodating his staff are. Never complaining when we want to substitute something on taster menus, and always being really friendly and welcoming.

He/They are generally quality
The pubs are a step too far IMHO. HAd dinner a few time snow at the Warrington and they either need to change things or the roll out hasn't worked and I have now met the chap responsible for the roll out and he has nothing but good things to say re GR and the 'Empire'.
If you get the chance, go to most of his Central London places; never had a 'bad' meal!
