T440Rs:

The grey T440:

Was LNT 1 then became L5DYJ. Currently at Ginetta in bits after a crunch near Le Mans

The first reflex charcoal T440:

TYP 110N. Resides in the Cotswolds.

The second reflex charcoal T440:

Was PL 03 EHT owned by Smolensky. Was in Aberdeen as T14 HON. Currently at RG for sale at £100k.

The fourth T440, the orange one specced out by TVR as the only ever supercharged sequnetial Typhon:

AF 04 BYZ. Retained by factory, passed to Multipart as part of a bill settlement. Sold by RG and currently undergoing a restoration.

The Red press car:

PN 02 ZNG. Converted to a race car and became one of the De Walt cars.

The Brundle test car:

PL 03 BXY. Gone. 2 possibilities. It was given away to someone in Japan or Middle East. Or de-registered and re-registered as one of the above cars. Someone in the factory will know but the general belief is that it is one of the above cars.

T400 Race Cars:

Believed to be 7 of them. LNT at Ginetta would appear to have several. One is currently for sale and a De Walt one was up for sale in the North last year.

T400 Road Car.

Not too sure about the history of these but I believe there was one. It was purple and referred to as a Tuscan R, not a T440. Had different rear lights and only 2 seats. I don't think it left the factory as a car. Isn't someone on PH the owner of the shell?

I suspect V8GRF knows some further details.

Was'nt involved in a crunch near Le Mans*, it was involved in an accident when the owner trusted a cameraman to drive it briefly - much heartache and repair complications have followed. Anyone who has met Jane will know how angry she was over the whole thing. I take it as her Typhon is forsale it is nearly fully repaired or back with her. Great car, unique, 1 of 1. I have told her I'll buy it off her a couple of times, but have been politely told it is NEVER for sale. hehe Would love an update on this one??

I was unaware that the red on became a racer - it is probably responsible for my love of the T440/T400/Typhons. I once chased it in my old modified Smart car a motorway briefly, I suspect the driver was rather impressed/shocked to see a little black box still behind him at 100mph+, then proceeded to boot it to a *much* greater speed - very very nice sound! Prehaps the only racer that I would give some serious thought to re-converting to a road car?

Give me a few years to save, of course... biggrin

The grey T440 is still at Ginetta as far as I am aware. I understood the crunch happened when it was down at Le Mans, but that was from a thread on PH at the time. I don't believe that is it rebuilt yet.

The reflex charcoal T440 she aquired from her husband and is for sale at RG.

The Typhon was a supercharged T440 with a sequential gearbox. Only one was made, the orange one.

Sorry, yes, I meant to mention that - which is why I put the star by it.

The car was lightly nudged during a parade drive in Le Mans center, it was fully repaired as soon as it was back in the UK IIRC, the actual accident that has created the headache (photographer) is slightly more significant, and happened just as the Oxleys decided to make things difficult. I am glad it ended up back with LNT, who will (or have) undoubtedly repair it to better than new. smile

I think the S6 Cerb racer went down to a French buyer

Peter Wheelers Racer is I believe owned by his wife

The Cerbera GT racer resides in Blackpool

The Cerbera GT road car (the first Cerb, converted to run the Speed 12 running gear to allow them to be FIA homologated) is owned by a PHer called Jonlcerb

At least a Speed 12 bodyshell is kept up in the lake district, I remember seeing a pic a while ago of the bodyshell (maybe more?) in a workshop where they are rebuilding the Bluebird.

LNT own four T400's one of whisch was seen at the BNG.

There was a purple Tuscan R as well, Y276 XBV that was used as a development car, can't remember what happened to that.

The T440 at LNT is still in bits and is likely to stay there judging by comments Lawrence Tomlinson made when he showed us round the factory.

The Speed 12 seen at the back in the Bluebird resto pics is actually in the North East.

There's also this T440R in a spectraflare paint

Did it 'transform' into one of the Typhons? Pic from TMS Open Day in 2003.

Does anyone know where the #31 Grantura from Le Mans in 1962 is now (and the reserve entry #65 car?), AFAIK that was the first TVR entered at Le Mansso must be worth a note!

Should there be some of the early classics in the list and at least one Griff given the impact it had on the company?

No because this is a lsit of recent race TVRs and is obviously nothing to do with a reasonable selection of significant TVRs.

Not sure if it fits the significant category since it probably no longer exists, was this ever built as a prototype?
I know the motor show vented bonnet and goldfish bowl looking rear lights version speed 6 was cut up, but these are the only photo's Ive ever seen besides the interior. Front pic looks real enough, rear looks a little super imposed. |http://thumbsnap.com/8qtUZKRr

Yes that was built and evolved into the other car you refer to, it was then cut up.

erm not strictly ture, I was wondering on the significant cars in TVR's history, the early classics are missing as my knowledge on particular early cars is limited, mainly racing cars have been listed as they tend to be the ones that stand out the easiest..

TVR2 was a glaring ommission on my part and the TVR Grantura is a possibility

Someone mentioned the 90's Griff, but i think there needs to be a particular car not a model to stand out, you could also argue that it was the S that started the TVR turn around and the Chimaera actually sold far more making the company what it was in the mid 90's.

Im not even sure that most of the cars on the list were actually very successfull.

The Grantura did about 2 laps at LM
the seac was banned quite quickly
The speed12 was never fullt developed and failed as a road car
the white elephant was just that

So what should the criteria be, I think it needs to revolve around particular cars, you cant just have a Chim as there are more of them than everything else it would have to be one that stands out for some reason, either a one off, very successfull, or very well known, and with a known history.

so Back to my list for now

TVR 2 - The earliest Surviving Car
LM Grantura - earliest TVR at LM
white elephant - a rare surviving prototype
The evante protoype if it still exists
Seac Racer
Cosworth S
PW's Tuscan challenge car
speed 12
the red cerbera speed 12
one of the T400/440/R/typhon road cars not sure which
T400 racer, probably the penninsula car its not reckoned to be the best but IIRC it is the earliest and the last one to run at LM
Shortys S6 Cerbera - kickstarted TVR in GT racing
The swordfish Tuscan :- TVR's in film

AS for the others, there should probably be an original griff in there somewhere, and maybe one of the tridents deserves a mention, or even possibly the tina..

so to add to the list in needs the car and why.. nd it must be a car that still exists

:-)
