Best place to get a Canon 28-135mm USM lens cheap?

Looking to pick one of these up on the cheap (if it is possible). 2nd hand would probably be the cheapest option I guess. Any good places apart from Ebay to try and find one in and around the West London/London area?

Not sure what cheap means but they are listed at a place in Wallington for £249 new. Free delivery or pick up.

I've got one (28-135 IS USM f/3.5-5.6) that I don't use that much (it's my backup lens) - body is in good condition, comes with a hood and a Hoya Skylight filter. Make me a decent offer and it's yours.

I've also got a Hoya CP filter somewhere in a box in the Study - we've just moved house, and haven't unpacked half of the study yet. If I can find it, I'll throw it in for another £20 (< half-price), if you are interested?


(BTW - check if that £249 one is new or refurb, and whether it's a UK retailer or e.g. Hong Kong. List price for these is typically >£300 from even an internet retailer)

It's new and UK according to the web site. The business has been around some years. I spoke to them a few weeks ago about something else and it all seemed genuine. My plans changed though so as yet I have not bought from them.

There's also a place up in Carlisle doing similar deals but they were a little more expensive on this one and also not in London.

I've got one of these and while it's a really good lens, sharp and damn fast focusing, it's a bit 'long' for an everyday walkabout on my 40D and the field of view's a touch narrow.

In hindsight I would probably have got the 17-85mm IS USM. Of course, if you're using a full frame body that's not such a consideration...

It will be sitting on a Canon 550D body.

I was using one last week whilst on holiday in Italy (borrowed from my friend) and found that it was perfectly acceptable as a walkabout lens, with a good range. Very quick as well!
