And what's the point when a lighter 4 litre RV8 will give you more power ?...or of course the 5 litre Ford V8.

Maybe because the 4 litre V6 will fit in a 2.9 chassis and mate up to Ford gearbox scratchchin?

And "just because it would be different" rolleyes

The later 4 litre explorer engine (2001>) had mods that fixed the timing chain problems. Can be retro fitted for about £500 or £600. Got an old explorer with a low mileage engine with all the mods done. It's very reliable and loads or grunt low down. Their are 2 versions of the engine. The older one was push rods and very much a cologne with a long throw crank and pistons like the QE2. Later ones (96 on) were OHC with very different heads and front and rear timing chains. Could be quite hard to get a later one in a smaller car as it has a lot more bulk on top and at the rear of the block/head.

I think you'd need to, after racing one for 10 years the cologne is a useless motor only good for use as a boat anchor... :-) imho... you can get more powere out of the older essex. the later 2.9 version is quite a bit better than the 2.8 mind.

One of the racers did have a hybrid built with some of the 4ltr parts but it never worked well.

im playing with a 2.9 cossy at the moment which is a derivative of the cologne but seems much better.

Begs the question, why did you persevere for 10 years if so unimpressed ?????
