Credit Card Security Breach
Discussion
It looks like there is a big Credit Card/Debit Card fraud in progress at the moment. Over on some of the Scale Modelling websites news has been filtering through over the morning that one of the largest UK model suppliers might have had its site hacked and credit card details stolen. I actually received an e-mail from that retailer today alerting me to this problem and advising me to check my credit card to ensure that no unusual purchases have been made.
It also seems that this is a bigger problem than originally thought as other hobby related websites are reporting similar incidents.
It now looks like the hacking of a credit card clearing house is the source of the fraud rather than the retailers.
I would advise all PHers to check their credit cards regularly for the next few days at least to make sure no unauthorised person have not tried to use them - especially if the cards were used to purchase anything on-line over the past month or so.

Had one of mine hacked recently.
The card issuer rang to stay they stopped what they suspected was unusal spending and wanted confirmation. It was for 65p ($1) from an American website. Apparently if it had gone through they put through much higher value stuff.
One of my cards contacted me to check similar. This is where it's helpful only having cards where the call centres are staffed by first-language English speakers. The card issuer rang to stay they stopped what they suspected was unusal spending and wanted confirmation. IIRC, the small charges are pre-authorisation fees for use on interweb payment systems. As you say, if that goes through un-noticed, they then hit the card properly. (Why they don't hit it first time, I don't know.)
