Limited slip Diff on S2 !

HI There, i was reading Steve Heaths tvr s series book and he mentions that some s2's had a limited slip differential put in, a more experienced tvr driver may be able to tell straight away by driving it, but does anyone know how i can see if it has one?

I may have this a bit wrong but I think the trick is to jack the back end up, handbrake off and put in gear. turn either rear wheel by hand and if other wheel rotates in opposite direction you don't have a limited slip.

If the part number "dog tag" is still on one of the diff cover bolts look for two letter A's in the middle of that number, that would indicate it is a Viscous type LSD as used on some Granada's before they went to traction control.

Find a nice quiet bit of (private)road and give it the full beans, very little wheel spin and its a LSD

Yep - a bit wrong!
If it's in gear and the other wheel DOESN'T rotate in the opposite direction you've got a broken diff. However it's not an LSD the wheels should rotate easily in opposite directions when in gear, if it is an LSD the wheels will still rotate in opposite directions but be very hard to turn. Do it out of gear so the input shaft flange is free to rotate and both wheels will then turn in the same direction on an LSD as you can see in Deadspider's first video.
