So I had a big weekend of car viewing ahead of me. I had four different types of car to look at covering the whole range of options I was considering for my new toy. It was all very sensible and methodical.

Then I went to look at a local PHer's TVR - a very smart Chimaera 500 (not for sale, just for comparison) - and now the pragmatism has gone straight out the window. It's a couple of years since I've ridden in a TVR and it wasn't until I experienced it again that I remembered what I've been missing. I've now cancelled my plans to go off looking at a gavel of Lotuses (Lotii?) tomorrow. I'm sold. I just need to find a good one now...

It was the V8 dragster soundtrack, wasn't it? Ohhhhhh, the noise. It's one of the main reasons I bought the Chimaera rather than an Elise or VX220.

It was just a combination of everything - noise, performance, (apparently) composed handling, exterior looks, gorgeous interior and enough practicality to actually get out and enjoy all of that in the real world. I've been in lots of fast cars (and plenty of noisy ones!) but there's something very compelling about a TVR. I said I wanted another one as soon as I sold the S, nearly two years ago, but I was being quite pragmatic about the decision right up until the moment I had a ride in one, when heart rapidly overtook head...
