Rob Croydon's Donington Park British GT opener on paper, wasn't one to remember, but the 35 year old GT and Sportscar driver was philosophical about the 9th place in class in round 1 and non finish on Sunday's round 2.
>
>He commented "To be honest it was a race weekend where we all learned an awful lot. We did endure more than our fair share of problems but that is to be expected with a brand new car which had only turned a handful of laps before arriving at Donington".
>
>Rob signed for the season with the vastly experienced Colin Blower Motorsport in the exciting and attractive looking Vauxhall VX220 GT car entered in the Dailysportscar.com backed Cup Class.
>
>The Eil.com backed driver was full of praise for his new team. "Colin and the boys worked so hard, not just this weekend but in the weeks leading up to the race. They have all the right resources and knowledge and we are confident this little car will take the Cup Class fight to the Porsche's and Ferrari's. Everyone was impressed by the look of the car and despite our problems we are all looking forward to Mondello Park (Ireland) where we are sure to run more competitively".
>
>The Vauxhall VX220 was never able to prove it's worth during the busy and hectic race weekend at the Derbyshire venue. In qualifying and the race, the car ran without any turbo boost, and the drivers reported problems with driveshafts which hindered both Rob and his team mate Dan Eagling from exploiting the car's full potential. More frustration followed in Saturday afternoon's 1 hour Round 1 but Rob and Dan dug in and brought the car home to a 9th place finish in it's first ever race. This itself was deemed a big achievement.
>
>Race 2 was on Sunday and sadly Rob reported the loss of a rear wheel after barely a lap was compeleted. In summary he added "It was definitely the right decision to race this weekend. We learned far more than in 5 days testing. Colin and the team will be working hard to get the car right for Mondello and we are eager to show the motor sport world what the Vauxhall VX220 can do. I want to thank Colin Blower Motorsport, my sponsors, Eil.com, Motorracinglinks.com, Crash.net, Cranfield University, North Carolina Wireless and XL design for supporting me this year.
