I need a scanner for use with a Macbook Pro. As a winter project, I've got about 1000 slides and heaven knows how many photos/negs that I would like to scan into my hard drive. I reckon £300 would be my max budget. Any suggestions?

PS I've already tried a search for this info - but Search function is temp down.

Look at the Epson flatbed scanners - they provide for slides, negatives and printed images. Your budget should set some clear parameter for your selection.

There is usually a good market in used Photo Scanners since many people these days buy for their personal project and have no need of the scanner once the project is complete.

Many thanks for your reply. Have just been reading some Epson reviews on the Amazon website, but will look out for used equipment as per your suggestion

You're welcome.

You may find the reviews on this site

Interesting.

There are a few, the most recent being the Epson V600.

Scanning technology, for photographs but more especially film, is pretty much as developed as it is likely to get unless something dramatic happens and scanning technology changes or people suddenly rush back to using film. So the reviews of even the older scanners from 3 or 4 years ago are still current in terms of what is available.

Software has moved on a little so at the most critical levels of scanning you might expect slightly better results and processes than those described in the reviews - maybe not by much though.

I like what that review says about the Epson and am tempted to go for it. However, I'm going to a photographic club meeting on Thursday - for the first time - and will seek opinions there also. The Epson seems fairly straightforward to use and I don't want an instrument whose software is a nightmare to master.

However, appreciate your advice.
