A friend is looking for a mini and is intending to get a union jack paint job done on it. Not just the roof, the whole car (each to their own )

Can anyone suggest/recommend a paintshop (doesn't have to be a mini specialist), preferably in the S Yorkshire area that could do this?

There will be no body repairs to be done, and the car will be stripped accordingly, he's just looking for preparation and painting.

Cheers

Probably the easiest way is to go for a red car and then sticker up the blue and white.

I would have thought that a union jack spray job would be horribly expensive as it must take at least 10 hours to mask it up let alone rubbing it down between coats and lacquering it...

Talk him out of it - I've seen a couple like this in the flesh and they look utter crap

IMHO for the time, effort and money he'd be far better off thinking of a really good, individual paint job and have it done. I've always liked the idea of a gunmetal grey-ish colour with the Union Flag on the roof in contrasting shades of grey/silver but so closely contrasted you'd only see it in a certain light or angle. Subtle but very nice!

Best thing to do is get along to a couple of Mini shows, they’ll be some people there who have them. There was a couple of them done a few years ago which looked like a flag had been draped over them, I think it was a air brushing company who did the work and it did look stunning, one of the best I’ve ever seen

He's seen them in magazines and it makes him want one all the more.

It's not my cup of tea either, but there's no telling him.

He's got far more money that sense

Fair enough then, any good bodyshop will be more than willing to part him and oodles of cash.

I remember reading an article about a chap who had done it in MiniWorld. On being asked whether he would do it again in paint his response was a simple 'No!!'

I think the only issue he will have is finding a bodyshop with a window of opportunity large enough...

Maybe (I'm hoping) once he's found a car he likes he won't want to paint it, although if he can wait long enough I might be able to do it for him.

All being well later in the year we'll have one too many minis. Once I've taken the bits off it I doubt the shell will be worth selling so I thought about using it for welding/painting practice.

My missus wants to try and create a mini like the stripy Paul Smith one If I can do that a union jack will be a doddle

Davlyn's Bodyshop in Melton Mowbray - I'll get the number off my brother. The guy there (Dave) does absolutely stunning work, all sorts of bodywork + painting.
