dust? or something else

Hi all,

while editing some shots of deer i took the other day i noticed this purple/white spot on this guys face. This seems to be on the same place in quite a few of the photo's. The image below is a per pixel crop of an image so as you can tell its not very big (and my lens isnt very sharp wide open ) Just wondering if anyone might know what would cause this?

Looks like a dead pixel to me. Dust wouldn't show there.

That was the conclusion i was coming to the more i was thinking about it .

Yep...dead pixel for sure. I had one on a Nikon D1. Nout you can do I'm afraid (unless it's under warranty)

Yeah after a bit of googling that was the conclusion i had come to as well. According to the internet (so it must be true) there is a trick you can do with initiating the manual cleaning process that can fix it. But i think this is if it is a "hot" pixel rather then dead, i.e stuck on not off. Also the camera will be under warrenty, not a year old yet so i will go down that route if it doesent work.

Deffo a hot pixel. I had this on a brand new S90 I bought in KL. Luckily I was staying overnight and spotted it whilst taking some photos in the evening. Took the camera back to the shop and they replaced it no questions asked. Good luck with the warranty claim!
