Erm. Depends what vehicle, where you take it and other variables.

Best bet would probably be to ring some local places and get a quote?

Welcome to PH.

ETA - Have you ever had a partial windscreen replacement?

A 4x4 you say? The most precise figures would put the cost at between £70 and £750.

I dont understand why you dont put it thro your insurance it only costs 50 quid or so.

Or as you know who has done it ,why not make them pay ?

If insurance covers windscreen then there is no reason not to put it through them. Cover will be for windscreen breakage be it accidental or deliberate vandalism.

Glass cover isn't just for stone chips / cracks or even just the windscreen - I had my rear and side windows smashed and they were covered. Paid £50 excess, Autoglass replaced both.

I believe the brand new cost of most windscreens now is in the £350-400 range assuming nothing too fancy.

Is it just broken on the outside or does the crack go all the way through?

other things that can affect the price are:-

heated
tinted
bi-focal
and the amount and type of road fund licence fitted.

Do you regularly carry passengers? If not, you might find it cheaper just to buy a pair of these:

Strange question.

If the car is comprehensively insured, then it can be claimed as a windscreen repair whether it was deliberate or not.

If the culprit is known and it was malicious, I assume it's been reported to the police and whatever it costs will be recoverable...

Unless of course, the car isn't insured, and the damage was done by someone to teach the OP a lesson. Perhaps because they'd done something naughty, perhaps not paid a debt in time...

Just had a new screen fitted in my car (MG ZT with rain sensor) - Autoglass wanted £615 (!) but I got it done by Auto Windscreens for £223... local independent wanted £160.

It's the labour thats the expensive bit (my windscreen cost AW ~£50)

It's one of them ones that like other windscreens, rather than liking tailgate or hatch glass.

You'd pay 30-50 quid in labour alone for removing a bonded windscreen from a breaker these days.

But unless new glass is really expensive, or obsolete hacking screens out of secondhand cars is not as popular as it used to be.
