Any ideas what this bit is that has fallen off my Griff 500?

So, today's competition is:
" name the mystery TVR part " ...and before some
says it, no I don't mean 'Fred' 
!!!
I've just found something on the drive under where the Griff is normally parked that I don't recognise -ie not just the usual pool of oil/cat poo/etc
It's a pretty simple looking mild steel rod, 8 mm diameter and 67 mm long (about 2.5inches) with a pin hole part way down. There is a rough wear pattern over a cm or so mid way along so it must be holding something fairly lose in place at a guess. Clues might be that the car had the gearbox out to fit a new clutch and rear seal a few weeks ago but I didn't do the job so no ideas if this is connected with it. Car seems to drive OK though.
When it's just trim or things you can identify fairly easily that fall off your TVR you just get on and glue/screw/nail it back on, part of the joy (?) of ownership I suppose, but thuoght I ought to try and identify this bit before I mash the gas pedal too hard!

It's the spingledompf. It is responsible for the brakes, steering and hifi. At some point in the near future, due to catastrophic failure, the hifi will suddenly blast out romantic oldies from Magic FM at full volume and you will wonder why your brakes and steering have no effect apart from adjusting volume and changing stations. If you are sharp, you will realise that you can in fact control everything from the headunit.

OTOMH looks like part of the gear shift linkage on the T5 spaghetti junction arrangement. Ask the garage they probably lost it somewhere in the chassis / bodywork traps and replaced it with another part rather than charge you for days of searching...

Apparently the reason that TVR went bust is nothing to to with that Russian bloke - it was closed by the churches because the next stage of evolution was an additional joint between the wrist and the elbow of the right arm to allow this pin to be re-inserted without taking the body off and such an evolutionary step would have finally refuted all that creationist crap so in a conspiracy rivalling the Da'vinci Code the major religions all put aside their differences, clubbed together, bought TVR through this poor schmuck in Russia and killed it off...
How about that for an explanation?

well..I suppose now the part has been 'Firsted' ,'Seconded' and even 'Thirded' then it must be part of the gear linkage 
-cheers to Spend, Clive and Bassfiend for the input. Because the Griff is driving Ok and I can select gears OK the garage must have replaced it as suggested.
So, I reckon that must mean I now have a spare spangledompf and if anyone ever needs one they know where to come -it's even been indexed by the mighty Google already!!!
As for the conspiracy theory, yep I reckon you got that right but why stop at the extra wrist joint? Surely TVR owners have already shown evolutionary traits like growing B*ll*cks the size of rugby balls just from driving the beasts?

I'm not sure it's actually part of the linkage itself but there's an eye on the top of the box and (so I'm lead to believe) one on the underside of the chassis which that pin goes through both of and which is an absolute b*st*rd to get in as it has to be done once the box is in situ (hence easier with the body off of course) ... it may additionally be part of the linkage (in which case they must have substituted in another) but I'm not in myself sure whether it is part of the linkage or whether it's part of a gearbox mounting ...
