Xbox 360 Kinect
Discussion
I just placed my preorder on a XBOX 360 S Black (250GB) + Kinect Sensor + Kinect Adventures.
€350 expected 10/11/2010.
First time I was such an "early adaptor" on these things
.
The reason I did this are threefold:
1) The little BiL (12yo) wants a 360 and I'll sell him mine (in perfect condition) second hand for a very nice price
2) I want the more quiet, better looking S model
3) The kinect seems like a good deal on top of a new S model (€100 instead of 150)
I'm looking forward to this and the technology, I hope it won't be a major disappointment like the EyeToy was for the Playstation.
What are your thoughts? Will it fail or be actual good fun (like the Wii)? Will they be able to deliver on release date?
I feel like a little kid again, having to wait for it's birthday to get the toy instead of just buying it on sight

If they make it compatible with some proper RPG's it'll be a cracker.
With the 360s, watch out for dodgy CD drives.
Are you referring to the scratching issue? Didn't they solve that years ago? As well as the overheating (RROD)?With the 360s, watch out for dodgy CD drives.
the cd drives feel and sound chaep compared to a new cheaper elite.
Ok, so I got my Kinect last Wednesday, so I had some time to test it.
First off, the "space issue". While this may be an issue to some, I only know 1 person in my direct neighborhood who would have a problem, because his living room is also his bedroom.
I have a narrow, long house. Only 4m wide (13ft). My tv and couch are both against the opposite walls, and if I move my coffee table I can create a square of about 2,5m by 2,5m (8'x8') in front of the tv. In the callibration tool of the kinect, standing right in front of my couch places me just in the "best" area, which would provide enough room for two, but I'll get back to that.
So if you can't make room for at least 2,5m in front of your tv, you can only play alone.
Secondly, the menus. This is as easy as it gets. In fact, on one occasion I got my sister (who never played a game beside "Maffia Wars") in front of the kinect. Chance had it that she was the first "controller", so she had to navigate the menus. It was a doddle, just point and hold, your average five year old or eighty year old could do it.
Thirdly, the controls. You can say what you want about the kinect, but it works better than the Wii. The only limitation it has is that you don't have any buttons, but the movements are very well registered, the avatar in front of you even clearly follows you when you're scratching your hair or the like. The only downside is that it feels slower than the Move, but it's forgivable because of the extra freedom of movement and quality of the registration of the movements.
And last, the games. The only game I have so far is kinect adventures, which are (as far as I played) a couple of minigames. Some are more entertaining as others, and some lend to better two player modes.
As far as I'm concerned it's a good launch title, but you feel like there is more to get out of the kinect. Dancing or fighting could be especially entertaining. I'm also curious if there would be some "hybrid" games, as I could see this work in some genres. (for example: doing "extra" moves in Guitar Hero)
Anyway, all in all I think it's a great addition to the xbox, and for me a great replacement for the Wii for the following reasons:
- Only one console under your tv, with a small camera in front of your tv
- all things considered, cheaper
- it really is a novelty, having so much control without a controller
- your whole body matters, so no more tennis by flicking your wrist in the sofa

I have to echo the sentiments here, I picked up my Kinect yesterday along with adventures (included) and Kinect motion sports, £155 from Tesco.
The space thing is a non issue, I have a narrow lounge and we had no problem playing 2 player games in the approx 2m space.
The games are fun, and I got my sweat on doing the track and field events in motion sports, so a much better work out than the wii.
The only downside I've experienced so far is I whacked my toe against the radiator while playing the football game

How's the sports for you? I've read it's not really an addition when you have the Adventures? Do you think it's worth the money? The space thing is a non issue, I have a narrow lounge and we had no problem playing 2 player games in the approx 2m space.

With the sports game it also films you as you are playing, part of the fun is watching it back and laughing at the shapes you are making,
I have uploaded some of the videos to kinect share and posted on face book, my friends that were around on saturday night all found this very amusing..
All in all i am very pleased with the kinect, everyone that has played with it has commented how easy it is, and how clever it is,
We had the mother in law playing football the other evening and she was navigating the menus and playing the games!!!! she has NEVER used a console before in her life,
this is testiment to how user friendly the kinect is.
oh if anybody wants to buy a nintendo wii with nine games two controlers with the extra motion things, look on ebay , The WII is redundent now !!!

Got Kinect and love it!
Still hoping that I can find a way to auto sign in once it recognises I'm in the room and want to try and find a way to turn in on/off by voice...
"Your Shape: Fitness Evolved" is a great game... I say game, it's more of a tool. It provides great motivation and structure to a fitness plan. Unlike the Wii which might as well be a Neo Nazi Mr Motivator... "YOU ARE VER' MORBIDLY OBESE JA?! LOOK AT ZE FATTY!! LOOK AT ZE GIANT OOMPAH LOOMPAH!!!"
I'm 6ft3 and not f
kING CHINESE SO YES I DO WEIGH MORE THAN A PENCIL YOU OBNOXIOUS LITTLE WHITE BOX OF HATRED!!! :Furious:
The girlfriend is not getting back into exercising after having our baby and there are so many different workouts to choose from even some specifically for post-pregnancy.
Personally I use the Mens Health Training programes for use with Dumbells, I believe there's a few other routines by Mens Health and since I used to get copies of the magazine which seemed quite practical and informative i'm going to be using them more than most of the programs.
The cardio boxing seems to be more kick boxing (composure/balance/improving your stance/building core muscles) than an actuall cardio workout but therefore it's excellent a strecth routine to use at the end of a session.
Kinect adventures is good fun, did an online game which turn out to be the obstacle course... would love to challenge some PH'ers so this as it's good to have some healthy competition, and perhaps get healthier in the process

Add me, my gamer tag is my user name (ZesPak). Didn't play online yet, but I'd love to have a go...

The obstacle course was great to do as it was a genuine head to head race however... I'm interested to find out how the rafting works, would it be co-op or vs?
