Hi Peeps!
Have the "opportunity" to go to India in November.
It's primarily a business trip and I'll probably decide not to take the "brick" with me. Or should I?
I suppose I will mostly be in offices all day long and in taxis and transit between Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Chennai and somewhere-else-I-have-forgotten-already. Anyone been and, apart from "don't drink the water" any tips? (Don't mess with the Raj - I know!)
Are there likely to be any shopping opportunities not to be missed, d'ya think?

I've been to Delhi a few times with work, you'll mostly be fine with a DSLR. I'd imagine that you'll have your own driver who should take you about. Problem you'll have will be your sightseeing time will be after dark. There's a set on my flickr of shots taken to and from the office from the car (on phone so can't link).
OK -you've convinced me to give it some serious thought. Will need to decide which lenses to take, too - maybe 17-35 and 85mm. But not taking tripod et al.
Finally sat down and looked at itinerary; includes Calcutta, which I couldn't remember earlier and two "greyed-out" days (which might be just the days allocated to being sick!).

Was in India for a couple of weeks in 2006 and took about 4000 images. Mostly crap cause I'm no photographer but there is just soooooooooo much to see. The colours are so bright, the people so happy and friendly, (provided you don't look too deep and can isolate your morality gene!!) and the weather was gentle on the camera in that humidity wasn't a problem, just dust!!Finally sat down and looked at itinerary; includes Calcutta, which I couldn't remember earlier and two "greyed-out" days (which might be just the days allocated to being sick!).
Without doubt you will regret not taking the DSLR if you don't but as previously noted keep a mini dig in your pocket for those occasions that creep up while you aren't able to have the brick.
All in all it was an awesome country to photograph and every city has its special places.
Food is fab if you like curry but whatever you do don't eat the Fried Milk its disgusting!! IMHO
Try to eat what I call the real local food not what they think us foreigners like. Its just so wonderful and flavoursome. Dont buy water from the kids on the street it will probably be tap water in a bottle with the cap melted to reseal it!!! Other than that had no issues with food, hygeine ( use the european loos if you can) or the dreaded Delhi Belly!!!
