TVR - do they suffer paintwork problems?

After just leaving the Lotus fold as so many of the Elise / Exige seem to suffer paintwork problems, I am looking for another car.

Before I go and look at a few TVR's Do any of the models suffer paintwork problems?

In short no not a issue you see posted up here, just stone chips like any car i guess on the front end but the paint seems well done and pretty hard.

Not exactly correct.
My 2006 Mk2 Tuscan has some paint damage on the bonnet directly above the manifolds on the near side.
There are some fine cracks. Same on the wiper cover panel on the near side as well.
Due to prolonged standing with engine running.
Cant take a picture as not at home.

Paint chips I can live with...

The problems I mean are where the paint bubbles, blisters like on many of the Lotus Elise / Exige I see. I had a 111R for a couple of years and noticed a small amount of imperfections starting to come up in the paint. I got out before it got too bad! I also went to a lotus event and was amazed just how many cars had poor paintwork. you see lots of reference on the Lotus forums to paint warranty, panels being replaced...

So, any one else like to comment? Can I go and buy a TVR safe in the knowledge that the paintwork remains good?

I have seen that on a couple of cars. I intend to put heat shield material on the relevant part of my bonnet.

The lacquer is rapidly disappearing on the two rear panels and the N/S wing mirror of my Chim. I believe that it is the original paint on those parts of the car.

I also have a bubble on the top of the front wing, but that is the result of an accident repair.

The front is stone chipped to hell.

It is a 15 year old car at the end of the day though so I forgive it

Rosso Pearl tends to turn pink with age....not known any original TVR paint to bubble though.

Need more information.

TVRs have been in production a long long time.

What models are you considering ?

From what I've read over the years....other than the rare exception, doesn't seem to be an issue.

TVR paint chips easier than paint on a metal car, maybe an issue with baking temperatures. They can suffer from micro Blistering, defects due to inadequate curing and lack of care in general finishing.

Depends how picky you are but the finish on a Fiat Punto will be better all round and generally more resistant to chipping.

I've had one or two Loti(?) and the paint on most TVRs is superior from what I've experienced with the Lotus.
