"JORDAN AND KOX SHARE BRITISH GT POLE POSITION HONOURS
Mike Jordan and Peter Kox took a pole position each during qualifying for rounds one and two of the British GT Championship at Donington Park this afternoon (April 3).
Jordan put his Porsche 911 GT3-RS onto the front of the grid with a time of 1m10.128s ahead of the Nathan Kinch in a Ferrari 360 Modena. David Jones managed to take third place in his Porsche 911 GT3-RS with the TVR T400R of Steve Hyde in fourth.
“I was happy with the car and the pace,” said Jordan. “I’ve had to reacclimatise back to British GT from the FIA series last year. There was a lot of traffic out there but everything felt good and the time just came.”
Neil Cunningham put the Embassy Racing Corvette sixth on the grid for the opening round of the series, just behind the Porsche 911 GT3-RSR of Jonathan Cocker.
The dailysportscar.com Cup Class pole was taken by Adam Wilcox in the DRM Ferrari 360 with Barrie Whight in his Lotus Elise in second place.
In the second, rain interrupted, session Peter Kox (Porsche 911 GT3-RS) blasted to pole position by a massive one-and-a-half seconds from Tim Sugden (Porsche 911 GT3-RSR). Tim Mullen (Ferrari 360 Modena) snatched third place on the grid for tomorrow’s race in the closing minutes, pushing Piers Johnson (TVR T400R) down to fourth.
Kox was delighted to be starting from the front for his first outing in a Porsche.
“I didn’t expect to get the time but I am very happy, especially as it’s my first time in a Porsche,” he said. “The team is working very well and it was definitely the right decision to stay out on slick tyres as the track kept drying all the way through. I’m really looking forward to the races now,” he added.
Former champion Mark Sumpter had to settle for fifth on the grid after starting on intermediate tyres before changing to slicks halfway through the fifteen minute session. 2003 runner-up, Shaun Balfe made a late charge in his Mosler MT900R and ended up in sixth place.
Phil Hindley took pole position in the dailysportscar.com Cup class, the Porsche 911 GT Cup driver just ahead of Ni Amorim in the DRM Ferrari.
Race One will take place later this afternoon, scheduled to start at 5.10pm, with race two tomorrow (Sunday April 4) 1.15pm."

JORDAN & SUMPTER TAKE BRITISH GT VICTORY AT DONINGTON
Mike Jordan and Mark Sumpter took a dominant victory in round one of the British GT Championship at Donington Park this afternoon (April 3). Peter Kox overcame intense pressure from Tim Sugden to take second spot for himself and Ian Khan. Phil Hindley and Jonathan Rowland took victory in the dailysportscar.com Cup class.
At the start Jordan blasted away into a huge lead to head Neil Cunningham in the Embassy Racing Corvette. However the Cunningham soon dropped back as the track started to dry out and drivers on intermediate tyres began to dominate.
Jordan’s team-mate David Jones soon reeled him in and moved into the lead before the pit-stop window opened. Jones pitted early to hand over to his brother, Godfrey, before Jordan swapped places with Sumpter.
Ian Khan inherited the lead in his Porsche 911 GT3RS and stayed out longer before handing over to Peter Kox. This promoted the Jones’ back into the lead, with Sumpter giving chase.
A possible JW Racing 1-2 was ended when Sumpter saw a gap and went to pass Jones at Coppice and tapped him into a spin. A puncture and necessary pit-stop saw the Jones car drop to fifth.
Shaun Balfe held onto third place in his Mosler for a handful of laps before Kox and a hard charging Tim Sugden caught and passed him. Kox then held off the former champion to take second place.
“Everything went really well and it is a great result. It’s a bit frustrating as we could have had a 1-2 for the team, but, it has been so long since me and Mark has won a race, it feels great. It is definitely going to be a hard season though,” said Jordan.
In the dailysportscar.com Cup class it looked like the race win would go to Barrie Whight and Gavin Kershaw in their Lotus Elise. A spin in the closing stages meant Phil Hindley was able to close the gap and take the lead. Adam Wilcox and Ni Amorim were also able to sneak past the Lotus to take second place.
“Jonathan did a great job at the start to keep his head on slicks. We knew that intermediates would be the best option, but we didn’t have any!” said Hindley. “We had to slither around for a while but everything went our way at the end.”
Race two is scheduled to take place at 1.15pm tomorrow (Sunday April 4).

So close but yet so far, but many congratulations to the Tomlinson/Greensall TVR T400R
on their amazing second place today, but to lose it on the last corner must
be a chocker.
Good showing from the Hyde/Johnson car as well until their off.
Not too sure why the Hartshorne/Mundy car was shown as a non finisher as although
it wasn't on the pace, it only appeared to be a lap or two down and was running - anyone?
Some excellent racing in the Tuscan Championship, although I would think
David Mason will look back at missed opportunities.
Excellent for TVR and great to see so many there to watch.

Just got home, very good weekend of motorsport. Only bad thing was camping in the rain which didn't stop all night!!
British GT championship is goin to be a great season this year. So many cars that can win races.
Well done to the GKracing Elise, I was surprised by the Marcos of Team Tiger, it did well in qualying.
I really liked the look of the 35# Ferrari, loving the big wing on it, and the sound is the best.

Hi G Cerbera
We met today at Donington, I'm the Noble guy who asked if you owned the yellow exige.
It was amazing to see soo many TVRs in one place, Id met Mr and Mrs Fish at a service station on the way to the circuit with Neil B. Isnt it incredible how the internet has created a global community of like minded people ? It was good to meet you. Here are a couple of pics of the bronze TVR. I took more than 500 pics but dont know how to post them directly to pistonheads.
regards

engage echo mode: yes it is great how pistonheads facilitates the easy social interaction of like minded people at a motorsport event... I was in the metallic green mini parked in between the yellow griff 500 & mk2 cavalier sri 130...hello to all I met - the west & east midlands tvrcc, the chap with the griff who gave me so much info about day to day running costs, the chap with the pristine 924, everybody I met was great so all in all, a great day!

Hi Nick
Indeed, great to meet you, I hope you enjoyed the racing.
Thanks for those two photos (tags edited to show shots) excellent stuff, I look
forward to seeing more.
How was the run back in the Noble? If you find out who the two are in and around
Daventry, let me know.
See you again I hope.
a great treat from donington. some very talented drivers about. the GTs had a hard time saturday with a damp track then a flood on the sunday. also a big hand to the TVRs and the Ginettas, very entertaining.
for those wondering: i left after the flood on sunday and was back home with a glass of vino in hand for the 10 o'clock news.
