... have I just got a bike where nothing fits where it ought to?
I bought a pair of Knog Skink rear lights. Two is better than one - you can get them flashing at different rates and they make me think of Christmas.
The rear triangle tubes of my bike are too thin to mount the lights there so I put them on the seatpost, where they do a great job, and look like Christmas.
I bought that Alien multitool and carried it on my belt until I bought a pair of Aldi winter trousers which don't need a belt sort of forcing me to buy a saddle bag. A Topeak medium saddle bag is perfectly sized for both my "stuff" AND for where it mounts on the seatpost. It was a bad decision though because it leaves no room for the lights.
So I ordered a Deuter FRONT triangle/frame bag and I'm hoping to sell off the Topeak to one of my Sunday Cycle Club members. The Deuter looks slightly more usefully-shaped than their normal triangle bag which fits between the seat and top tubes. It turned up today but with velcro straps so long that the bag would flap about in the breeze, so I "amend" the straps (I'm a dab-hand at needlework but you tell anyone and... oh bugger) and go to fit it, already conscious that I will have to move my drink bottle carrier to the seat tube or I wouldn't be able to easily get the bottle out/into the carrier.
The Deuter now fits perfectly, and carries what I need. My 15yo Specialized frame however doesn't fit perfectly. The braze-on lugs for bottle carrier mounting are too low on the seat tube to relocate the Specialized (yes, same make and from the same year) bottle carrier which fouls on the diagonal tube.
So I've ordered a Deuter REAR triangle bag.
OK, these things are only a tenner a time, and I'll surely recoup most of that by selling things on, but it's a bloody faff.
And the daftest thing is, although I don't mind admitting that I haven't put many miles on the bike until this year, in the the 15 years I've owned it, I've never needed any roadside maintenance so the Alien was little more than an impulse purchase anyway.
Still, when I'm out cycling, I do look like Christmas, so that's OK then.

And... I'm about to buy a new bike so I will guess the "fitment" game will bring more challenges. Fun to resolve though isn't it?
