No surprise 1 & 2. Looking at positions 3 & 5 though, isn't it time that BAR were uplifted in peoples minds from being show boaters, to serious challengers.

Mr Davidson has also done himself no harm.

Yeah and also because they seem to be capable of beating Williams BMW quite easily. They just need possibly a teensy bit more development on their car to make it a winner I think

KR's engine has let go ...... again, that means a drop of 10 places on the grid !!!!!

Speed trap list is interesting.

Only if they have to change the engine, it had flames coming out of the back rather than the usual white smoke of something going bang internally. It may have been oil hose/pump related. In which case if they can fix it without changing he'll be ok.

Think I'd take the 10 grid spots penalty for an engine change rather than risk going out with one thats had some sort of problem, especially given Mercedes' reliability so far this season.

Second session times were much closer anyway, although maybe MS was taking it a bit easy after his trip into the gravel.

Some people have cynically suggested that at some point this season a team will run a car in qualifying with a full limited lap qualifying engine, get pole but change the engine (drop to 10th on the grid) but install a fresh race engine and get a clear advantage over everyone else who's been running the same engine over the weekend. They would be running the T car in practice so wouldn't touch their qualifying engine/car till Saturday afternoon..

Button has said he intends staying at BAR next year - and why not, they appear to be not far off being level pegging with Williams!

Interesting theory...

They'd also be able to play with fuel levels at the same time - qualify on a whif and fill up for the start of the race.

And why not - if BAR do become a contender, then JB can say that it was built around him. Double whammy this as Williams will never be built around a driver (although this is no bad thing - I'm still a bit of a Williams fan) - but also JV failed miserably at BAR to do just that

Fuel leak resulting in engine change and penalty apparently: www.formula1.com/race/news/1381/716.html

Anyone know if he'll be penalised another ten places if the engine blows up in qualifying as well?

Shame for KR to get off to such a bad start to the season.

Was going to ask the same thing... if not he might as well do a proper quali run and then change engine and fuel up for a long run, hopefully from around 10th.

Apparently the Bahrain track is really slippery off line, so he could well struggle to pass anyone.
