On a venture such as this, if tax money is to be involved (I am sure it will), considering the Irish government's kick in.....is that handled by Ireland alone or does being part of the U.K. give her the keys to all of Treasure Island's booty? Sorry for my ignorance of U.K. tax workings between its nations but I am curious in this instance.

The republic of Ireland and the RoI taxation system is independent of the UK; and has been since 1921 smile

Thanks for that. However, what instance would tax from all of the U.K. be pooled for a single endeavor? For example, funding the MoD, which obviously offers protection for Ireland as well. Again, excuse my ignorance regarding this as the inner workings of U.K. taxation has not been high on my list. smile

Of course we'll pay, we give cash to europe and they give it back to the "needy" states.

Imagine giving vast sums of your money to the UN and then they give it to mexico, that's how the EU works.

ETA Eire or southern Ireland is nothing to do with us, it is a foreign country and not part of the UK.

Sounds grim and aggrevating.

As above, in this instance nothing to do with the UK (other than via Brussles)

This is Eire / Republic of Ireland, a separate country and not Northern Ireland.

The whole of Ireland was part of the UK from 1801 to 1921.
In 1921, after a short War of Indepndence, 26 counties of Ireland became completely independent of the UK and was established as the Irish Free State with a government (the Dail) based in Dublin.
The remaining six counties in the North East quadrant of the island remained part of the UK and became the Province of Northern Ireland with a government in Stormont (just outside Belfast).

From 1921 the Irish Fee State essentially became completely independent of the UK having its own laws, army, navy, air corps, taxation system and currency (although the currency remained linked to Sterling until 1979).
In the 1930s, the Free State was renamed "Eire" and in 1949 "Eire" was reconstituted as the Republic of Ireland, which it has been ever since.
Eire remained neutral during WW2 - although at least 50,000 of its citizens voluntarilly joined the British Armed Forces during that period (a smaller number - including my uncle - joined the US armed forces).

The Irish Republic adopted the Euro ten years ago. The UK (including Northern Ireland) still uses Sterling.

She's the Secretary of State (the US Foreign Minister) so as part of her job she visits foreign countries.

And for the record the entire population of the UK doesn't live in London. We do have other cities-difficult concept to grasp I know but there you go.

Don't have a go at Jimbeaux. He is a very worthy PH contributor and is one of a rare bunch of posters here from across the pond. I value his presence here.

OK, his knowledge of UK/British Isles history, politics and taxation might be a bit hazy (as he admitted in his post) - but how well up are you on the taxation system in Nebraska?

I suspect that silly little comment will get you torn a new one on here.

Enjoy!

Well I know it's not in Canada.

I feel sure that Jimbeaux has a gun and is prepared to use it so a bit of gentle ribbing won't scare him off.

Sorry I should have worded the question more clearly. What is the link between her and our tax or Irish tax and 'treasure island' booty in particular? The weblink doesn't send me to a specific document or statement.

The link seems to be pointing to a joint symposium on Child Nutrition in Poor Countries and doesn't seem to have anything to do with tax, tax avoidance etc.

It looks like the Republic of Ireland and the US are running a project to raise awareness on Child Nutrition. It doesn't appear to involve the UK in any way whatsoever so will have no impact on UK taxation.
