Join a local motorclub - I understand Woolbridge is good in the SW - autotests, sprints and they also run Wiscombe.

Sprint/Hillclimb licence is simple and a cheque to the MSA should sort you out.

Thanks i will look at all the options. Do you take part in these events? How do you find them?

I circuit race, so don't know too much about sprinting and hillclimbing. However, I guess that your local club will be able to point you in the right direction (as suggested above). The MSA website should have them listed somewhere.

Also, this thread has a few sprinters letting off a bit of steam. And, try this article. All brought to you c/o Pistonheads .

Enjoy your racing

Edit - try the article first - all you need to know

I'm just getting started too.

Have just received my Starter Pack from the MSA which includes an aplication form for National Cat 'B' license together with notes about other things you will need to do, such as having a medical. Also includes the MSA handbook which I haven't had chance to look at yet, but think it has details of all the different categories of racing, guide to flags and that sort of thing. There is also some offers in there for 'Circuit Guides' which are in the format of a ring binder giving details of all the national racing circuits, such as racing lines etc.

Not sure whether you actually need a 'racing' license for hillclimbing though, 'cos you're not racing directly against any other cars.

Have you looked into the possibility of circuit racing too, or are you only interested in hillclimbng?

Sprinting/hillclimbing is excellent - can be cost effective and there are classses for most types of car. There is normally an excellent atmosphere and, unlike circuits they tend to happen in pretty places!

The BARC at Gurston Down (www.gurstondown.org) are well worth talking to as well if you`re in the SW.

Unless you drive a high performance car ( single seater et al) any Nat B license is OK for sprinting/hillclimbing. Don't think you even need a medical.
Many of the clubs do intro to sprinting days-certainly Shenstone my local club does( and it's free) which walks you through everything.

www.bristolmc.co.uk loads of info, especially on the "getting strted in motorsport" section. if you are based in the south west, the association of south west motor clubs sprint or hillclimb championship would seem logical.... www.aswmc.org.uk for all the details though you will need to be a member of one of the clubs first.

"Licence" - not "License", please.

Licence = Noun
License = Verb

Unless you are American, then it's ok.
