This is the bit I love;
The Bono nonprofit took in $14,993,873 in public donations in 2008, the latest year for which tax records are available. Of that, $184,732 was distributed to three charities, according to the IRS filing. Meanwhile, more than $8 million was spent on executive and employee salaries.

Did think that the South Park portryal of him was a bit OTT. Maybe not. scratchchin

Those are some high running costs!

Although I think that a lot of "charity groups" have their donations eaten up by admin and running costs.

Indeed. Very crude numbers for most main charities are that for every pound give, 25p goes to the person or group who raised the money and 50p goes on admin.

Some charities are left with less than 10p in the £.

This is why the DEC system seems to be such a good idea.

Also, if you consider the average person who works for a charity, they are not cutting edge, ruthless business players. biggrin

Anyway, cut a long sotry short: Yes. Bono is a knob. biggrin

If you want to know how good your chosen charity is, you can look at http://www.intelligentgiving.com/
Oxfam is running at 71%, MSF at 88% and CAFOD at 90%. DEC is phenomenal - running at 98% (of money invested going to the causes it is collecting for).

When I went to a U2 concert the ONE campainers made it pretty clear they were a political pressure type group, not a charity that money generally directly (should) go towards aid.

Like the scallies that ask for a fiver to guard your car on a trip to Anfield.

'It's okay it has an alarm and immobiliser, no-one can rob it'

'Do alarms stop the paint being scratched mister?'

Or the one I met at Arsenal.

"Nice car mate. Give us a quid and we'll look after it for you."

"It's OK, the dog's in it."

"Your dog put out fires does it?"

Their offices are hugely modest, particularly in comparison to their member agencies. They don't pay for the donation system (BT provide it) and we give them large amounts of hosting capability for very little outlay.

that's inflation! Before I moved down here in 2003, it was only quid!

Simple way is... I'll pay you when I get back so I know you've took good care of it. On the off chance they are still there... You politely tell them to do one and drive off. (as long as you've given your mates a lift to the match of course)

What is your complaint? Why shouldn't a charity spend its money employing people to do its work?

Do you really think the people who donated expected that 1.2% of their donation would go to the people who need it, and 98.8% would be spent on administering it?
