Some doubts about whether this will go ahead it seems. Two days til athletes start arriving and accommodation is unfinished or unsanitary, plumbing and electrics dodgy or not done etc.
Coupled with that monsoon weather has flooded some sections of the village and a bridge has collapsed raising doubts about the quality of the workmanship at the venue.
Bit of a calamity!

Cut, and paste into Word, saving to 2012. Coupled with that monsoon weather has flooded some sections of the village and a bridge has collapsed raising doubts about the quality of the workmanship at the venue.

An Indian official connected to the Games was being interviewed on R4 this evening. He was concerned that this fiasco might damage India's reputation. So, would that be their reputation for high standards of health, safety & hygiene or their reputation for world class construction standards or their reputation for successfully project managing large civil engineering jobs or their reputation for maintaining the highest standard of business ethics?

"Parts of the athletics track collapsed a month ago."
That should add a new incentive to the long jump!

I think they got confused with the position of the steeplechase waterjump. "Parts of the athletics track collapsed a month ago."
That should add a new incentive to the long jump!

It's getting worse....and a comment on the cleanliness of the facilities...
t in a toilet without flushing it in India. Lovely.

My old man has been to India several times on business. Each time he's said the place smelt bad, everything was dirty and he got a bad stomach bug throughout his stay. Also keep in mind he always stayed at five star hotels. He never wants to return and quite frankly, I don't see the incentive to go either.
I'm sure it's a beautiful place in parts, but I don't see the attraction of getting sick when people rave on about India and how you must visit the place. I'd rather try some other country!!!!

But he suggested that the complaints could be due to cultural differences.
"Everyone has different standards about cleanliness. The Westerners have different standards, we have different standards," he said.

'Games on a knife edge as roof collapses near weightlifting stage'

Indian reports suggest it was 'just' a couple of tiles which fell off the inside of the roof.'Games on a knife edge as roof collapses near weightlifting stage'

But nonetheless, what an embarrassment for the organisers this whole thing has become. They've spent more money than any other Commonwealth games in history and they still can't get it right.
