PS3 Controller Issues.

Hi Guys bought myself a PS3 today and can't seem to get the controller to work.
When I connect the controller to the console via USB lead the 4 red lights on the top flash, has been like that for a good two hours now and still won't work when I press the PS button.
And ideas ?
And iv already tried resetting the controller using the pinhole on the back.

Strange?
When I got mine all I did was plug the controller into the PS3 with the USB cable then press the PS button on the controller. This paired it right away and I could then unplug the cable and use the controller. Same thing for the move controller I purchased yesterday (awesome by the way).
Have you tried switching everything off and startin from scratch?
ps. What does it say in the manual?

I bought it second hand in GameStop with the move starter pack for €245, I got no manual with it so decided id try on here. Nothing has turned up on Google either.
Any Ideas ?

I didn't have this problem when I first got it but it happened a couple of weeks ago. I left it charging with the lights flashing for a while. Then pulled out the UBS cord, turned the PS3 on and off a few times pressing the PS button each time. It worked after three or four goes. However since then the controller wont log in while the USB cable is in.When I connect the controller to the console via USB lead the 4 red lights on the top flash, has been like that for a good two hours now and still won't work when I press the PS button.

Iv tried this, the PS button on the remote won't turn it on or off the remote just dosn't seem to work atall.
Ok, from the manual....
(I'll skip the bit about plugging in the cables)
Turn on the power switch on the back of the console
Touch the power button on the front of the console (power light should then go green and a picture should display)
Plug the USB cable into the console
Plug the other end into the Dualshock (or Sixaxis) controller
Press the PS button on the controller
Once the controller has been recognised the initial set up screen will display
So if the above does not work then in my opinion you have been sold a faulty PS3. It's a pretty simple process and there is no other way to do it.
To pair the DVD/Bluray remote you would have to do this in the console menus (using your paired controller... DOH).
If you get your console and controller paired up go into settings, then accessory settings and there is an option to add a new remote (this will pair over bluetooth)

4 flashing lights mean that it is charging. Why it wont actually connect I don't know, but it is charging.
I take it nothing works while it is plugged in? If thats the case then either the controller is flat (although it should charge in about an hour) or there is a problem with either the controller or the PS3 or both. My advice is to take it back to the shop tomorrow and get them to try it there (most of the game shops have a TV they can do this with)

Ill leave it for an hour and see, if not ill take it back tomorrow.

Just an update.
Took into Game Sunday they checked it out and said it was perfect, came home and same s
t.
So tried it with a friends Ps3 and its fked.
So going back into Game as soon as I can and telling them to exchange it for a working controller.
Should i look for any compensation (Discounted Game ect) seems that i drove 20Miles each way on Sunday specially to take it back or should I just be happy to recieve a working controller ?
