Canon speedlite 580 wireless trigger
Discussion
I bought a set of these for my off camera flash work (actually I bought the set with 3 receivers).

They're well made (considerably more robust that the really cheap ones you can get off e-bay) and mine have never misfired once. The batteries seem to last forever and it can double as a wireless shutter remote. No E-TTL control though, the flashes need to be set manually.
An alternative I heard about recently is the same manufacturer is releasing an infra red remote equivalent the Canon controller, so allows E-TTL control of remote flashes. It won't have the range or reliability of the radio triggers though.

You could probably pickup an Elinchrom Skyport UNIVERSAL (Not the RX) set for under £100 on eBay. There's a market for them so moving on after the experiment should be possible.
I have a couple of sets - they work well. If you go that way make sure you get all the connection cables in the set.

I bought two sets of these and they work very well. One of the triggers however stopped working pretty soon after I bought it. I returned itto the supplier who replaced it straight away. The other thing which surprised me was the short life of the supplied batteries. On the whole though Im pretty satisfied with them.http://www.amazon.co.uk/RF-602-Wireless-control-Tr...

I ran my first studio session today and after being tied to within 3m of the flash, tripping over the wire a couple of times and have a near miss with one child tripping over the wire whilst my camera was on a chair I have ordered a set (with 2 rx) from Amazon for next time!
A cameraphone shot I took during a break:

Setup
2x Elinchrom D-Lite 4 with 60cm soft boxes
1x Speedlight 580EX with 100cm brolly
Camera sync cord triggers the Speedlight which remotely triggers the two D-Lites.
