Independent: Read by people who couldn't care less who runs the country

Daily Mail: Read by the wives of people who think they run the country

Mirror: Read by people who'd like to run the country but never will

Financial Times: Read by people who finance whoever runs the country

Sunday Telegraph: Read by people who used to run the country

on a more serious note:

Mirror: Left
Financial Times: Centre
Sunday Telegraph: Right
Daily Telegraph: Right

The Yes Prime Minister quote is.

The Daily Mirror is read by people who think they run the country;
The Guardian is read by people who think they ought to run the country;
The Times is read by the people who actually do run the country;
The Daily Mail is read by the wives of the people who run the country;
The Financial Times is read by people who own the country;
The Morning Star is read by people who think the country ought to be run by another country;
The Daily Telegraph is read by people who think it is.
And Sun readers don't care who runs the country, as long as she's got big tits.

At its inception The Independent was true to its name, but more recently its stance has wavered and it has become a pink paper rather than a white one. Sad really, it was a decent source of well thought out information. Opinions may vary...

Yup, I'll pretty much go along with that.

When it started it filled a real gap in the British media.

Sadly, it started shifting to the left and also became very anti-Israel.

I read The Independent from shortly after it was launched in the mid 80's until finally in the early 90's I just couldn't take its obsession with the Gulf War any longer.

Best to just stick to the sport pages, in my opinion.

I gave up earlier this year because of its obsession, every damned day, with climate change. No half-cocked pro-MMGW rant went unpublished.

All above is broadly correct except for the Daily Mail which is now aimed at supporters of the Monster Raving Loony Party

They do seem to have a bonnet highly prone to bee incursions.

I'm not sure whether it lurched to the Left after I stopped reading it, or whether my views have drifted over the last 15 years. Bit of both, I suppose.

Viewed from the point of view of PH,

Daily Mail: Left

Mirror: Well left

Financial Times: Miles to the left

Sunday Telegraph: A bit left

Daily Telegraph: Mighty darned left

Razzle: Well informed

Men Only: Compulsory reading

FHM: Lefty intellectual

Heat magazine: too many pictures of the left

Economist: left, left again and left at the end of the road

CNN: very left

Fox news: a bit left

BBC - Alright! Who said that! Fiona Bruce dresses to the right but everything else is to the left.

Oh yes.

I was initially pleased with the latest Telegraph headline, which read:

"Travellers face 'green tax' rise of £800 a year"

About bloody time, I thought - although how they'd get the Thieving Gypsy bds to pay a single penny did seem a tad perplexing, given that the Inland Revenue don't have a neutrino detector, and your average Pikey is a hell of a lot more elusive than a shy neutrino when he wants to be.

Upon reading the article, it seems the Telegraph have, in a monumentally sloppy piece of journalism, used the term "Traveller" when what they actually meant was "Tax-paying members of the public who take advantage of the fact we no longer live in the 18th Century, and who wish to use mechanical means to travel further in a single day than is possible to walk during the hours of daylight".

Thoroughly disgusted, of Bracknell.

It would have to be PH to call the Telegraph centre right.

Although it's a few years since I've read it so maybe they've shifted a bit? It used to be pretty far right.

I would call the Guardian far left really.

They have shifted since they were sold a few years back. They don't have the pro-Israeli columnists anymore and they even have a ex Guardian type as a columnist now. Their only columnist commentating on Global warming is a firm believer in MMGW.

Read it for a few weeks now and it would be hard to call it any more right wing than centre right.

I think you are right about the lurch to the left. I used to be a committed reader in the good old days with Andreas Whittam Smith at the helm, but recently every time I pick it up it's got some badly written, badly researched piss boiler of a story. It isn't a paper for people with common sense views any more. God only knows what their target demographic is now. Shame really, because there ought to be a space in the UK for a truly independent paper.

And, while I'm having a mini rant, what about the sports pages. James Lawton. Fat Tosser. Knows fk all about anything. Capable of filling an entire page without saying anything at all.
