For plumbers, what do you install most?

Those householders who've recently (12 months or so) had a new system installed, what did you have?

Practically everything I've worked on in the last year that's had new central heating has been a Megaflo system.

4 year old new build, rubbish oil fire combi.

Folks are getting their house replumbed and rewired next year, it'll be getting a Megaflow to replace the old oil fired with hot water cylinder and gravity fed system.

None of the above.

Thermal store with solar, wood stove, lpg boiler and electric immersion all heating it.

The house is warmed by UFH.

Excuse my 'dumb' question but whats a Megaflow?? Currently looking what system to get for the first purchase (all going well) and TBH I just thought Combi is the way to go if its a full new system.

Extension done 2008.
Mains flow pressue not enough for a combi apparently so we have a combi boiler running hot water to the Kitchen and one upsairs bathroom, with a 2m high cylinder in the loft supplying the other bathroowm.

High pressure hot water I think?? Non vented system? Sure that is what we have got & have found it amazing-full bath in 60 seconds, seems mega efficient too.

Not limited to plumbers, edited my post to that effect.

Feel free to hijack though, you have a good point smile

Combi here as it's a one bed flat.

Ideally though, if I was installing a setup in a few bedroomed house. I'd go for the system boiler and un-vented cylinder route.

Aye. Mains pressure hot water to go with the mains cold. Stainless Steel cylinder and no need for shower pumps due to the high pressure from the hot/ cold. More expensive to put in, but it's a winner!

Replaced a combi boiler with a megaflo system in the summer. Excellent decision, lots of proper hot water for a bath and two showers. The old combi was dire, particularly in winter.

Ive had a Combi which I found struggled to fill a bath and currently have a normal boiler with a hot water cylinder which is great.

Arhh yes, I remeber now, winter-cold inlet water temp-combi dies!! IIRC it isn't quite mains pressure but it's pretty darn good!!

I have a combi I inherited in the house I rent. If it was my own property, it would be coming out and replaced with an open vented hot water system with a pumped shower as the mains flow rate is poor in my house.

I'm a Heating Engineer and I'd say 70% of installs are replacing conventional set ups with combination boilers.

No matter how much you try and convince them to just have a boiler swap, they are adement they want a combi, because they want space in there loft and airing cupboard.

The first complaint is ussually about the hot water temperature being too low!

Original 1988 boiler here.

However the HW cylinder sprang a leak after 10 years...
