I am considering putting 18" wheels on a 993 but seem to remember someone saying that this was not advisable. Anyone got any idea why? Also does anyone know any where I could purchase these as cheap as possible?

The only reasons why it's a bad idea are:

1. It'll tramline more due to the wider tyres
2. It'll be more bumpy due to the lower tyre walls
3. The arch clearance needs to be checked carefully to make sure you don't get any rubbing.

Other than that they look loads better.

What do you think about the 18" Sport Design wheels, any ideas on where I can get them other than OPC?

The 18 inch sport designs look fantastic on the 993, but best with the wide body or RS look.

Scottster hasn't told you the cheapest place to get 'em as he is looking out for a set himself ;-)

If you want a good brand new wheel and tyre deal, I would go to bbs direct (www.bbsdirect.co.uk???) and get one of their packages. Porsches look good with BBSs in my opinion.

If you want Porsche replicas, try www.performancewheelsupplies.ltd.uk/main.htm . Peter's a good bloke who knows his Porsches, I've bought off him before. Wheel and tyre packages are usually good value.

Thanks for the suggestions. The best price I can get for 18" Sport Design (GT3) is £1,700+VAT including PZero tyres. AFN Chiswick quoted me £2,500 just for the wheels although offered a 15% discount. Anyone know if this price is reasonable for geniune wheels?

Domster, those aren't the wheels we were discussing last night are they, 18", lots of quite thin spokes, little (fake I think) split rim bolt like holes round the edge?

Yes, I believe they are the Sport Design wheels that you saw and that we discussed. I may be wrong, but even if I am I won't admit it ;-)

PS Turbofree, I think for a set of 4 brand new genuine wheels, 1700 quid is an OK price. Some other design genuine Porsche 18 inch wheels are that *each*, and 959 wheels are 5k a corner or something mad.

It is still expensive, though. Well, compared to TSW Venoms anyway ;-)
