Croydon goes Vauxhall Turbo for British GT

GT and Sportscar racer Rob Croydon has signed with Colin Blower Motorsport for this season's British GT Championship.

The 35 year old driver from Kent commented,  "Colin has built an excellent, sexy looking  race car and I am confident we will be able to take a serious challenge to the Porsches, Ferraris and the rest and show that Vauxhall can win at this high level. I am looking forward to working with such an experienced engineer and team owner as he is ".

The VX220 Turbo is entered in the British GT's Cup Class. Rob had a handful of laps behind the wheel at a test track.

"I believe we still have some work to do so this weekend will be more like a test, but we will still be pushing hard to win Cup Class. I think after this weekend's opener at Donington we will have a little more time to get things right, then I believe we will really be able to threaten at Mondello Park. The car is bang on the power to weight ratio and is pushing out 300bhp plus the turbocharger. As a team it is our belief that the Championship is a possibility. "

Rob's Manager Andy Woolgar of MIMSport UK commented, "Initially Rob was due to race a Chrysler Viper but the deal fell apart through no fault of us and we were stranded. We then talked to a number of teams and to be honest this fitted our intentions and those of our sponsors perfectly. Rob will campaign the whole British GT and 10 races in the Nascar Weekly Racing Series too, so this year will be really good for him. "

Croydon will be partnered by former Marcos racer Dan Eagling.

Is Rob Croydon quick? I wouldn't put him in the same league as a few in the championship, but I'm hoping to be proven wrong. Colin Blower is a top bloke and I can imagine how much effort he has put into this project - despite being an Elise owner (and fairly anti-VX220) I somehow want to see this car do well. I can't wait for Saturday!
