Having had my X-box 360 for just 3 days, the wife has started complaining about the amount of time that I've spent on it rather than with her, pretending to be interested in Eastenders etc.

I guess this must be a problem that most married gamers have, so what is the best method for keeping the wife happy?

I've tried making her cups of tea between games and ensuring the household jobs are all done before starting a game, but still it seems I should be watching a soap instead frown

HELP!

P.S. The game is Modern Warfare 2 on X-Box Live.... I'm addicted already.

This is quite simple, my OH likes to watch st and I don't, if I have to sit with her I stop her watching st, she likes to watch st so much she tells me to bugger off and play a game.

You could get her a DS (Games console, not a Citroen wink), or a copy of The Sims 3 if she has a laptop.

Best solution, well it works for me, was to addict my wife to games. She used to play Zelda quite a lot anyway but getting her hooked to World of Warcraft was the most cunning move ever.

Except when she runs off with a 7th level fire elf from Greece that she met online.

Whilst she's watching Eastenders, talk to her, non stop for the entire half hour, about how much you're enjoying your new X-box and the merits of Modern Warfare 2 comparared to other FPS.

Eventually she'll tell you to ' F off and play on your bloody game'

Point out that there's no way you both watching such ste as east enders constitutes spending quality time together. Find something you both like to do (board games, watching and then talking about decent films, cooking a nice dinner together, shagging, that kind of thing) and then allocate two (or whatever) days a week to doing that. The other days you're free to rot your brains in whatever activities you see fit. If you can't find anything you like doing together then divorce her and game/wk yourself to oblivion. HTH.

Well, despite the bluntness, it makes sense. That said, I was hoping for a future thread "I tried a cattle prod on my wife and she's leaving me...".

Sit down and watch Eastenders or whatever is the compulsory that night. 5 minutes in, offer to make a cup of coffee. Rattle cups, walk in front of the tv, open a packet of crisps to go with it (make sure to share ! )

Still there ? then pick up the newspaper and start reading. A quality broadsheet with lots of arm waving to open it out, make a fuss of folding it to the right page. Lots of noise and distraction. Still no comment ? Start talking about what's in the paper, lean over and point out a few paragraphs or pictures.

If that doesn't work then give up. You've married a true saint who thinks you can't do a thing wrong. Shame on you for wanting to play on an XBox....
