Inspections prior to purchase

Once I find my perfect TVR, I intend to have an inspection carried out. One name springs to mind but I've read a couple of -ve comments recently.
So, do the likes of Power & Str8t Six carry out mobile inspections or is it a case of getting the car to their workshop? Also, are there any other individuals/companies that are well experienced in carrying out inspections?

I have always found Rob from Find A Sportscar to be very good. Has looked at a couple of TVRs I have bought and his assessments of the cars were spot on.
There are a few on here who his assessments were not spot on.

yours were good.The bottom line is there are a few TVR experts doing inspections NOT just ONE.
For this reason I would do what you should do when dealing with anything with competition, play them off against each other see who gives you the best price for the service.
Interestingly, someone on one of my posts said that they would not trust Rob with VW Beetle, I wouldn't like to comment as i've never met him or had him inspect for me but just thought I'd pass on the comments.

He's also highly disregarded by many - trouble is name and shame rules prevent the many from speaking out.
Best advice I can give is it's easy to inspect and pass off an already good car. Where the real money is earned is by finding the dogs and not recommending them!

Interesting theory but personally I'd want to see who gives the best service for the price..
Thanks for the replies. Having been browsing this forum for some time, it seems as though Power and Str8t Six are highly regarded as among the best but I'm not sure if they would do mobile inspections. Same goes for Track v Road. I guess only one way to find out.

Be very very careful as others have alluded to - for every one person that has had a good pre purchase experience with the 'lie on a duvet' man there is another that has bought a bit of a dog despite a good report from duvet man.

It's a real pity that those who disapprove of Rob Ingleby refuse to say why, so all you get on PH is rumours.
I tend towards the view that nobody is infallible, and anyone who's been in that sort of business for a while is bound to have missed something a few times. The internet is very good at accentuating the negatives: the one or two people who've had a bad experience publicise it, whereas the majority who get good service frequently don't bother. At least one person on this thread has said something like "I've never had any dealings with him, but I've heard bad things from somebody..." and hence the rumour spreads. The "no name and shame" policy on PH imposes a wall of silence, so we have no idea how many people have actually had bad experiences themselves, and how many are simply propagating the rumour.
My own view, having spoken to him and commissioned an inspection from him, is that he seems a knowledgeable chap. I don't regret paying £200 for his services, because it reduces the risk greatly. As it was, he found significant problems and I haven't (yet) bought the car.

Fair comment - I have not used mr Ingleby but I suspect his promoters far outwiegh detractors. I got TrackVRoad to inspect the Sagaris, they had also looked after/serviced the car for the pervious owner.
I would defo add them to your list and the car has been faultless with over 45k done, which says a lot about the great service they offer.

At the end of the day no one can predict what may happen to a car the minute you take ownership be it brand new or second hand. I have used rob on two occasions and both times found him spot on, he had the car up on stands and spent a good few hours checking everything over and the report was second to none (have used others inspection firms previously although not for TVR's), i wasnt present at either inspections, but both previous owners commented on how thorough he was.
I would definatly use him again, but if i had brought a car on his advice or any other firms advice, that then broke down within a few miles of picking it up and at no fault of the inspectors missing something, i would be left with a bad taste, and probably not recommend them to anyone, but thats human nature.
Thats my opinion for what its worth.

I called in to T v R last wk end for a chat. They're not keen on mobile inspections but happy to inspect at their workshop, the main advantage being able to put it on a ramp. They say they get cars from all over the country for inspections. Top guys by the way!
