Hi all,

Just been on a rolling road for a tune up, and the guy said he cant see what the problem is, everything he checked was in the parameters required, he did fit new plugs.

He thinks it's the ecu, so has anyone got one i could try, i'm based in Chatham, and don't mind an hourish drive. Or could someone post me one to try.

Or any ideas as to what is causing the car to overfuel, he was concerned about the continuous fuel pump, but i told him that's normal, so this being a TVR, he might have over looked something only you lot would know.

Many thanks, John.

Dirty/faulty MAF sensors ?
Dirty/gummed injectors ?
presumably plug leads and air filter are new ?

do you have standard fuel pressure regulator or an aftermarket one that might be cranked up too high ?

K wink

Not being funny but if he doesn't understand the continuously running fuel pump thats a concern.

The pump runs continuously and generates more pressure / flow than is needed, this is then regulated at the fuel regulator under the bonnet at the required pressure - and additional fuel is sent back to the fuel tank via the return hose - this way the fuel rail is held at a constant pressure, and cool fuel from the tank is constantly circulating to prevent fuel vapourosation issues.

Hi Kevin, not sure what MAF sensors are, could you let me know cheers.
If injectors were dirty, would they not restrict the petrol flow? also, how do you get to them, i'm thinking plenum off, then they unscrew like a spark plug?

Hi Chris, i think he said the granada never had continuous flow.

He fitted new plugs but no leads, they must have been ok or he would have made more money from me.

I've got the ECU cover off to see if anything obvious is wrong, all the stuff (Techy word lol) looks new, maybe i'll get a hammer and remap it lol.

I will have a go at the above when someone tells me how.

Many thanks, John

Cheers Mike for the link, how would i check to see if the throttle pot is faulty? or should a rolling road have picked that up.

Does the V6 have a tune resistor? My V8S was over fuelling because of this. Also try unplugging the ECU and plugging back in again.

There is a thread on here somewhere about checking t.p. but basically (and from memory) the middle wire is brown/green and with ignition on there should be about 0.6 volts to earth rising smoothly to 4.6 volts at full throttle position. I used a digital voltmeter with a pointed probe that stabbed through the cable to get a reading

Mine was giving about 4.5v all the time but when I fitted a replacement that worked correctly engine ran erratically because of "other issues" !

posted a thread recently about my trip tp Austec (as have others) I'm really not on commission but I can't sing the guys praises loud enough. I travelled about 150 mile to get there but then there's no point in going to the "bloke round the corner" if he's not familiar with our old V6's, could run up huge bill, replace the wrong or non faulty parts etc etc. (imho)

MAF or AFM's are those two things behind the airfilter, they have a sensor just inside the body inside a plastic shroud which is vertical as you look at it. The sensor can get gummed up with muck (and oil if you still have the engine breather pipe stuffed through the side of the filter instead of fitting a small filter to the breather cap itself). If the sensors are dirty the ECU will be getting duff info and can send more fuel... clean the sensorrs very carefully using a cotton bud and carb cleaner (or similar). It would be worth checking and if necessary cleaning the connectors on the side of the AFM's too. You also need to check that the flaps inside the AFM's are moving freely too.

To be honest though if your guy is stumped then I would take it to someone who is familiar with the car as recommended by others here...

K wink
