I'm going to do a front wishbone refurb/replace this autumn and the rear bolts look very rusty. My usual technique of using a blowtorch isn't really practical here! I've been using Plus Gas for years, but it wouldn't shift the upper balljoint bolts recently and I'm expecting more of the same with the wishbones...

Any other recommendations?

I changed all my rear wishbone bushes in January and used this stuff http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

They all came off quite easily and I don't think they'd been undone since the car was new. Removing the bushes themselves was a different story!

Thanks for that. I'll get some and treat the rusty bolts a few times over a couple of weeks before I start the job. The problem with the balljoint bolts was that they had rusted along their length inside the casting. The Plus Gas simply wsn't getting in there. That's why the freezer stuff looked attractive.

Which method did you use on the bushes BTW. Drill,saw or burn?

If you're not reusing the bolts, and subject to whether you can get access, why not just cut them off with a grinder, hacksaw or nut splitter?

Another vote here for LACO Rustbuster - very easy to apply, leave to soak, very effective.

When I did my shocks, I got the nuts off with that stuff, but the bolts were seized inside the bushes so I still had to cut through the damn things.

I started by drilling through the rubber part and then hacksawing through the outer metal. Even having done that I couldn't move it as it seem bonded to the actual wishbone. My problem was lack of proper equipment - had I of had a bench and vice I think it would have been OK.

It took me about 20 minutes to disassemble each of the rear corners - great start. Then having spent about 2 hours to get half way through removing the first bush, I gave up and paid a local garage to get them out!
