Collapsible lobster pots
Discussion
I have just bought 3 collapsible lobster/prawn pots and set them yesterday to see how they would do. I baited them with Mackerel heads and took them to my local rocky beach and set them at the low water mark in a couple of rocky gullies.
My morning hall was made up of about twenty undersize brown crabs, 5 sizeable brown crabs but not the right condition for cooking, a handful of large prawns, and 9 very large velvet crabs. It was also full of small fish, blennies (3 species), wrasse (2 species), rocklings and scorpion fish (all big)!
I was tempted to make a bouillabaisse with lot but decided just to keep the velvets and prawns which Boiled in salted water for 5 minutes. The crabs were fantastic and sweet and had a surprisingly large amount of white and brown meat inside! I have kept the shells and little bits and when I have enough I’ll make a crab soup!
next time I will get some pics and hopefully a large lobster or somthing interesting!

You don't need any sort of license or anything to do this?
Sounds like a fantastic idea to me, I'm 3 walk minutes from a beach
It depends where you live. There are often bye laws by the regional Sea Fisheries Committee; restricting the number of pots and the number of crabs/lobsters you are allowed to keep each day.Sounds like a fantastic idea to me, I'm 3 walk minutes from a beach
