About 18 months ago, a guy cycling on a dual carriageway was killed when he was knocked off by a car. The driver didn't stop.

Looks like the accused's wife wasn't much help when she spoke to the police:

"The questions were very general. When asked about the car her response was, 'It's been stolen'. Then, crucially, before the police said anything else, she said, 'I don't know anything about an accident with a bicycle'.

The police hadn't mentioned an accident with a bicycle. He must have known himself he had been in a collision with a bicycle."
Nice one ..

I just hope the lying bcensoredard gets locked up for a long time.

His wife deserves to do time as well for not reporting him.

Reminds me of (although not as serious) the muppet we apprehended at a bus stop for running without paying her food bill, her first words before we spoke to her were "I'm not the one who ran off" hehe

Echo the thoughts that she should be punished too, she would if she was covering up an SP30.

Allegedly, the driver stopped after the accident, picked up his bumper, and carried on..

The car has never been found.

Hope the driver gets what's coming to him.

What sort of charges would they be facing for this act? It's very serious but is it the sort of thing that this countries legal system doesn't punish properly?

I once had a client who got pulled over by the police, and was speaking to the officer about his speed. The officer's statement contained the following.

plod's statement said:
"The defendant's wife then leant across and said 'officer, you're wasting your time, he's always like this when he's had too much to drink' "
Thanks love.

IIRC a wife is under no duty to report her husband and this relationship is one of the very, very few wherein they don't have to answer questions...

But every time you go over the posted limit, children and puppies are actually thrown in front of cars, killing and maiming them horribly.

Therefore people who protect those who commit such crimes really should be punished. They're worse than paedophiles imho...

PTCO is the one offence I always told my clients to avoid like the plague.

Actual offence could be nicking a bottle of milk. Lie about it and you're looking at jail.

I thought America had spousal privilege (think that's the term, too much Law & Order) but we didn't?

A always thought this was why, when stopped, the police always ask If you know why you've been stopped. Loads of people just give themselves away.

BiB: Do you know why you've been stopped?
Idiot: Is it about the drugs in the boot?
BiB: Well it is now.

Happens loads I believe.

Wife vs husband is competent (in that she can give evidence) but not compellable (you can't make her!). All a bit archaic!
