CMD got to the hospital. Looks like the old boy held on long enough.

Ah yes, they've updated the article - was just "breaking news" when I posted it, with no details.

Hope he managed to see the new baby before he passed away. Sad news.

Very sad. Glad he made it before he passed; I never got there in time when my Mum died and it's something that has lived with me ever since.
Crap feeling isn't it! Neither myself, brother or sister were able to make it to either our mum or dad when they passed on. You almost feel like you have failed them. Irrational I know!

RIP Mr Cameron

Yes indeed. And of course the birth of his next child.

I must say it seems to happen a lot in families, cycle of life, one in and one out.

My sincerest, heartfelt condolences to Mr Cameron and his family at this difficult time.

Having lost my own father in recent years I know the kind of blow it is - one a new PM could well have done without. At least there is the joy of the newborn. A life gone but a new life started.

It will be hard for Dave Cameron to keep going but I reckon he's got the strength of will to do it.

Poor bugger.

Loads of people I don't know die every day; not sure why you're all getting so 'Diana' about it.

There's always one who doesn't 'get it'. Usually by Page 2.

I'll tell you what; start a thread every time anyone's Dad, anywhere in the world, dies, and then I'll get it.

Expressing a bit of sympathy is hardly "getting all Diana" about it.

It's the tiniest bit different from "anyone's Dad, anywhere in the world" dying.

Here's a clue:

National figure + involved in government + statements in Parliament + loss each of us faces = significant human interest story.

Here's another clue:

There have been many threads on here, marking the passing of both famous people and family and friends.

Theses always get comments of respect and condolences.

Feel free to continue the practice.
