Carpet Retrim Pics

My carpets were pretty badly faded from the sun in places so i decided to replace them but without spending a fortune. I bought the carpet and adhesive from the manufacture and the vinyl for the binding from a car trimmers. I also decided to change the binding from navy blue to portland grey.

I took out all the old carpets to use as templates and cut out the new carpet. I then got Anthony from Dubhoulstry to put the binding on, he did a great job and did the lot for £50.

I then fitted all the carpets myself which took about a day, I am pretty pleased with the results as it cost £160 all in. I did put on several pics of old and new carpets but only one has appeared. [url]|

Looks superb! Where did you get the carpet from? Is there an official color code for it? (i think i have the same colour in mine).

How long did it take you to put the seats back in??
And apart from the seats and the pod, did you have to take anything else out, like the center console?

Very nice - those carpets are the same colour as mine, though I think my car must have spent a lot of time in the shade as mine fortunately haven't faded.

I notice you don't have any speakers behind the rear shelf. I thought all Tuscans came with them there?

I got the carpes from coverdale in wigan, they are just midnight blue, no official colour code. It was also the only decent dark blue carpet i could find.

It doesnt take long to put the seats back in, about half an hour to do both, the only fiddley bit is trying to line them up with the holes. The pod did not have to be removed, i had it out for other reasons. However the centre console and the long tray that the radio sits in had to come out as well, this tray was probably the hardest bit to do.

I believe the speakers in the rear shelf were an audio upgrade option, i was tempted to fit them whilst i had the carpets out but didin't bother. Maybe something i do in the future.

As for your carpets Rich - amazing job! Mine are the same colour as yours were. Is the new carpet the thick stuff like original? Do you think Anthony would make up another set for sale if you still have your old carpets for guides?

That's the thing; the 'leather' I took off the luggage cover was identical to the faux leather they're selling and I subsequently bought; even down to the maker's mark on the back! Seems like some bits of the leather interior aren't leather!

Great Job!... I've been in touch with Coverdale but they dont do a carpet kit for the Tuscan they have ask for me to supply a paper template they can use !? . Would you be interested in making me a carpet kit instead ??

Hi Andy, sorry mate i can't really help as i just bought a roll of carpet from coverdale and cut my new carpets to the shape of my old ones so i don't have any templates as such.

I must say that is absolutely superb. Have you had any experience before of car triming or working with materials Rich as in cloth or carpets not hazardous

Its got me thinking as its the same colour as my interior which in the footwells is navy, but on the rear shelf sports "mystic green gold" carpet.

Its the only thing ive nver actually tried.. have done my own engine work, spannering and some painting all with good results, but have never tried to trim anything. Worried that my cutting wouldnt go quite aswell as yours.

I haven't had any other experience with trimming or carpets before but though i'd give it a go. I do other work on my car too and it all helps. I found it quite hardwork cutting and handling the carpet but quite easy to get a good result as there are only a few critical edges, ie most of the edges are hidden so you can cut a little bigger than required to get the critical edge right and the oversized bit is hidden by another piece of carpet or trim. Most of the edges that are trimmed in leather can also sit slightly differently than original and not look wrong, i think mine is now fitted better than the factory carpet however you would not think the factory carpet looked wrong if that makes sense.

I think the hardest edges to cut are over the rear wheel arches and where the carpet meets the door rubbers as it has to be exact.

I would definatley reccomend using carpet spray adhesive it made the job much easier, i think i used 3 or 4 cans.

When you cut the initial shape did you just cut the new carpet to exactly the same size? I suppose what i need to know is does the leather trim/piping bit make the carpet that much bigger once its fitted?

There's a couple locally to me in Southampton that I'd recommend.

I'd say if you yell.com or Google search for car trimmers/upholsterers and then spoke on the 'phone you could get an idea of price. If you find one locally, most car trimmers will have a portfolio of stuff they've done previously.

I found the amount the leather adds on is negligable. Its quite hard to cut the templates to that degree of accuracy so the odd millimeter won't make a great deal of difference, hovewer if you are still concerned then i'm sure if you speak the the person you find to fit the leather binding they will give you a good idea as to how much it will add on.
