Wide Angle Lens For Nikon

Im upgrading my camera to a Nikon D90 or D7000 very soon and want to buy a wide angle lens, I will have a budget of about £300.

Any recomendations from what people have used?

Zoom or prime? What focal length are you after?

I use a Sigma 10-20 and love it Not the sharpest tool in the box, but keep it to above 12mm and F8 and it delivers the goods.

I was thinking of something along the lines of a 10-20mm or similar, not too bothered if its zoom or prime.

Gary have you any pics taken with yours I can see?

If you're not bothered by max aperture the Sigma 10-20 will do fine - but probably more than £300...

Do you mean the full-frame D700 as opposed to a D700<b>0</b> I don't know of? Or maybe you meant the D3000 or D5000?

The lenses mentioned above will only be good for the crop sensor (as found on the D90, D3000 and D5000). For the D700 you're limited to the pricey but good 14mm f/2.8, the pricey and heavy but good 14-24mm f/2.8 or the cheaper but restrictive 16mm f/2.8 fisheye

On the crop sensor the Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 is cheap (the f/3.5 version is only worth the premium if you shoot loads at night) and can be very effective. Alternatively there's the Nikon 12-24mm f/4, whilst the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 has a short zoom but a constant wide aperture and is very highly regarded.

No not the D700, the D7000 is (according to internet rumours) going to be the replacement for the D90 and a very good spec.

Is that Nikon lens you mentioned within my budget?

Whilst the Nikon is undoubtedly a nice bit of kit I'd start with a second hand (from somewhere reputable) Sigma then see how you get on with it. You can always sell them on Ebay for pretty much what you paid for it.

Just to bump this, I have bought a Sigma 15-30mm lens.

Looks a very impressive piece of kit but I cant test it yet as Ive sold my D40 and the D7000 I have ordered hasnt arrived yet.
