Pic of The Week: Sensational Senna
Monte Carlo acrobatics from Ayrton
A rather gratuitous one this, but one surely needs only the flimsiest of excuses to publish a picture of Senna 'on it'? And it's even better when he's hammering around the track where he shone the brightest - Monte Carlo.
So the trailer for the forthcoming Ayrton Senna biopic that we've been talking about this week presented the perfect POTW opportunity.
This particular shot catches Senna on the way to victory in the 1989 Monaco Grand Prix - one of six wins on the legendary street circuit - in his McLaren Honda. Wonderful.

I cannot wait to see this film. In my time the greatest I ever saw. Pure, pure speed and ultimate car control. I always think that he would have been a great rally driver because his car control was almost inpossibly good in any condition and where it counted, on the limit. The first lap at Donnington in '93 was like a scripted film and when seen would have had people sitting in the cinema saying ''How likely is that to have happened, it wouldn't happen like that in real life''

Funny, that was exactly the lap that came to mind with me too. The only person who comes close to him and I do mean close, in terms of speed, (and ruthlessness), is/was Herr Schumacher - don't know what's happened to him this season.Film summary here:

Great pic by the way! Gets a "10" from me
If anyone wants a good book recommendation, I really enjoyed "The Life of Senna". It looks a bit daunting at first, being several inches thick and in a tiny typeface, but it's fascinating, charting his life in minute and fascinating detail. It was a present to me from another PHer

kimi better than senna yeh right, would ferrari ever boot senna out ??? doubt it. Kimi could not lace senna's boots he was not even in the same class end of story.
Some of the F1 guys were untoucheable, they had the magic. My line of F1-heroes: Ronnie, Nikki, Gilles, Ayrton . . . nothing, that's where it stopped for me.
"Hey listen now bro . . . !"
This one is in my book explaining the term 'drive like you stole it':

I'm not sure I liked that trailer yesterday. I hope history isn't used selectively for the sake of making an interesting tale.
I wasn't actually expecting archive footage, I thought it would be a drama or docu-drama. I can't wait to see it though!! It's not often (err.. actually never) that we get F1 in the cinema. No doubt I'll get grumbles from the gf though, because I never go to the cinema normally! He was a great driver no doubt, but imo his passing has led a lot of people to look on him with rose-tinted spectacles...
If a certain German was no longer with us, we would consider Adelaide '94 as example of his brilliant ruthlessness and genius rather than him being a cnut
