STEVE REID CLASSICS "AVO SHOCKS"

hi all

just seen a topic on the forum and a link to steve reid classics interesting site for older tvrs
i need some new shocks for the front of my s , and am thinking of getting gaz gold pro's
steve reid classics are offering avo shocks at £59.95 each so alot cheaper than the gaz
are the avo's ok for road use , and what would i have to pay for new springs ?

Cant help you with costs but I'm running on AVO's and very happy with them

I broke a front spring earlier this year (in the spring, oddly enough!) and replaced the pair - cost £100 from TVR car parts. You can get them cheaper I suppose if you buy by diameter, length and spring rate.

I've had AVOs on the car for a few years, back ones have started leaking, so I've bought a set of GAZ to put on (after I've got my chassis sorted).

good price but I'm not Avo's number one fan ! mine cost £89.50 plus £39.95 for spring 18 months ago.bought from a reputable TVR dealer the springs I was told were a copy of the TVR originals but car sat up in the air like a pumped up 4x4 ! Springs have since been professionaly shortened but If I set the car as low as I'd like spring is loose on shocker when suspension at full drop ( ie car jacked up). At a cost AVO can shorten shocker piston to suit spring length.

Poly bushes "chewed up" on rears within weeks, replacements provided FOC but lasted no better. This is blamed on poor geometry of TVR suspension but then fronts split aswell. a knowledgeable man (who works in the shocks trade) suggested this is caused by the grooves machined into the top and bottom mounts to take circlips, used if you have the optional spherical bearings ?

They also squeaked, this got worse rather than better with use but to be fair to AVO they did repair/modify them FOC even though they were over a year old by the time I got around to contacting them.

So despite being bit cheaper than another well known brand initially they have cost a lot more in the long run with spherical bushes, shortening, postage and HASSLE !!!

Just for information, the prices on my website are about 10 years out of date, please ring for specific prices. Apologies for that but I dont have the technology to update it but I expect a lot of IT people cant restore cars-----------not convinced i can either for that matter
