He "might get better".

(Yeah, I know. Daily Mail, never happened. He's got two legs etc.)

They clearly confused 'soldier' with 'salamander'. Easily done.

In a statement, the Council's Service Director Mr Paul McKay said: 'We are looking into the matter and have arranged for a member of staff to meet Mr Lee to review the situation. We will urgently assess whether he meets the criteria for a disabled parking badge as laid down by the Department of Transport.'
There's a lovely woman who lives near me that has one of those tax-payer funded cars along with the blue badge. Her disability? Health problems caused by her obesity.

Why is anyone surprised at this, public services have so many politicised morons as a result of nu labias job creation programmes, this kind of stupidity is rapidly becoming the norm imho!!

Unfortunately couple that with the general approach to veterans in the uk (thanks for your service now fk off), then this is what you get!!

Cheers
Doubt that would make a difference in this case, just stupidity, assuming Daily Wail has got it 100% correct. Disabled people have always been treated as second class citizens. Anyway, there is scope for temp Blue Badge now (never used to be) so they could even have done that, however bizarre.

Not surprised at all, glad someone was able to get some national exposure about this

My dad had his leg removed and was refused a badge for exactly the same reason, took 6 months to get it sorted, different council too so this is a national thing!

That's good news, then. Shame it had to get in the media before someone with a clue did something.

is there a special kind of lobotomy they give you when you accept a job working for a local council?

Yes there is, but don't worry it'll grow back.

i wonder if with all these servicemen coming back and the number of older people we have now they are inundated with peoplel ooking for badges

i met someone who dealt with badge 'fraud' at a council a few years back - he was telling me how people were using fake identities (of dead people) to get disabled badges and the person he was investigating at the time had had one for soemthing like 15 years!

Sure, but wouldn't they assess the individual applicant?

As an aside...

They didn't think that they would get caught out eventually when he became the world's oldest man?
