Door Mirror - Life of its own
Discussion
Hi So called. Thanks for looking. Came to the same conclusion that they are linked to the door in some way. Which means I cannot just disable the mirrors with taking something else out!
Does anyone know how to remove the metal mirror control in the drivers door, it looks like you have to prise it off, but......

If I remember correctly you have to remove the door card to gain access to the mirror switch.Does anyone know how to remove the metal mirror control in the drivers door, it looks like you have to prise it off, but......
3 allan keys bolts need to be removed inside door pocket, remove door card, then remove the two screws which hold the handle that the mirror control sits in and this will allow the handle to come of the door card and you can access the mirror switch.
G2ORG B is right,
Take the door card off via three allen bolts inside the door pocket then take the door pocket off the card to access the mirror control.
Mine did the same, the longer term fix is to do as I did and swap the door pocket for a later model when they moved the mirror control further up the arm rest. I suspect because they got wet!! Doh...
good luck
Mike

Mine stopped working a while ago, so today I decided to get to the bottom of things...
Door card off:

To get the mirror switch panel out you have to remove the arm-rest first (four screws arrowed in red), then to remove the panel and housing, the screw arrowed green.
The panel is held into it's housing by two small 7mm bolts which are quite fiddly to remove, then you can pull it out.
The bottom of the circuit board didn't look too bad:

However the top of the board (upward facing under the buttons) was a different story:

As you can see, four of the seven micro-switches have corroded and fallen to pieces
To get the circuit board off the switch panel is a nightmare, as the four tiny nuts holding it to the four tiny posts are sandwiched between the two layers of the board (evidence of these can be seen above by the four rusty rings!).
The four posts can be seen below:

Here's what remains of the dead micro-switches:

Only TVR could develop something so complicated for such a simple function, and then put it somewhere that will get wet with no thought to waterproofing, and then make it such a b
d to remove / replace!
So what to do?
I've had a quick look around and no-one seems to sell the board as new.
To get one from a breakers is no guarantee it won't be as bad or worse.
I'm going to look around for replacement micro-switches of similar type from RS/Maplins/etc, clean the board up and refit mine.
I'll let you know how I get on...

You're welcome
If anyone has the same problem but doesn't feel up to the delicate job of desoldering / cleaning / reassembling, then PM me and I'll be more than happy to sort it for you.
Glad to help.

I'd really like to take you up on that offer if I could. I dunno if you could PM me.
I'm afraid electrics is a dark art that I haven't ever mastered or even trust myself with.
Many thanks in advance

Just about to follow your lead on the switches as one of my ball switches had lost its click, but the main thing I need to fix are the 2 mini capacitors that I damaged when I removed the switch pack. I have one of them, but lost the other one. Can anyone help me out to identify and find 2 replacement capacitors please. I can't work out the markings and what to buy.
Cheers,
Martin
