I am concerned that I have not received a VED reminder letter. Let me explain-

Taxing the X-Type is really easy – I get a reminder letter at the start of the month that the tax is due. The letter contains a code that you type into the DVLA website and it automatically pulls up all my car details and I simply pay online. The is the process I have followed on my car for the last 4 years.

I bought a TVR a few months ago and the tax is due at the end of this month. I have not received a VED reminder letter for it.

Does this mean that the car has not been properly registered under my name and address? (i.e. perhaps they couldn’t read the handwriting on the change of ownership form?)

What is the process for taxing the vehicle without the reminder letter? Do I need to take all the documents to the post office or something?

Should I be worried?

If you bought the TVR a few months ago you will, by now, have received the V5C in your name. This means they know where you live. Your reminder may have been lost in the post.

Assuming you have the V5C, you don't need the reminder to buy tax online anyway.

You have to take the V5 in your name plus insurance certificate in the same name as the V5 and your MOT to the post office.

They will tax it. If you don't have the V5, then just take the green slip that the seller gave you.

I haven't had a reminder for either of my cars either, both of them have tax due at the end of the month.

Owned one of them for 5 years, so they don't really have an excuse.

Have you had the V5 back? If so, they obviously have your correct address. If not, best sort it pretty quick.

Can be taxed with the V5/C (the bit you didn't post off when you bought the car), if it's within 2 months of the purchase.

Problem solved -

The reminder came in today's post! (Still, quite a few days later than I expected)

Nice to see that my 5000cc TVR is cheaper to tax than my daily driver!
