Cavity wall insulation
Discussion
I had a chap come round from the energy save <something or another> telling me about loft and cavity wall insulation etc. I already have 600mm of loft insulation, so he tried to tell me i could get cavity wall insulation done as well for a small fee/free.
He mentioned the different types (balls/rock wool?/foam). I always thought the cavity wall was to keep away driving rain (not much of that around where I live), but surely that cavity keeps the damp from the inner wall.
He also mentioned something about solar panels for hot water and electicity I think he mentioned 'HomeSun' is going to be one of the companies that is going to do this.
Anyone give me a reason as to why I shouldn't have cavity wall insulation injected in? Will it really help keep the energy bills down? Any long term problems associated with filled the cavity wall?
cheers

I look in to this a while back. The general consensus from my research seemed to be that the concern over damp bridging the cavity was only an issue for houses in exposed coastal areas where the walls got a frequent battering of water / wet sea air. For the majority of houses in the UK it was not an issue.
Some local councils are offering grants towards the cost of having cavity wall insulation fitted - might be worth checking in your area.

Seems to be a later, more popular thread than yours with some info :

I'm interested too, had a half dozen knocks on my door in the past couple of months.
