It's true..

All of the driving I've done today, surrounded by normal cars, in my normal car, looking around just thinking... isn't this all rather.... normal!

So I was happy before sunday, now I'm just normal..

Doing the washing up, driving the vectra.. normal..

But I can dream, oh boy, I can dream.. And now I've got the real images to put into that dream! and those images aren't normal!

And don't get me started on the sounds of the day.. My ears are still ringing to the sound of those 355's leaving the line, and the 360 CS.. WOW!!!

To continue your slightly philosophical theme, I was thinking driving home last night, especially after reading about the noise complaint, that the way our fine country is going it may not be that much longer that we can partake of the kind of simple pleasures that took place at Brunters on Sunday. Between the noise, our selfish use of scarce fossils fuels to produce nasty toxins, and our dangerous disregard for our own personal safety in those lethal weapons we call cars, our lovely caring government will probably intervene and make fast cars either illegal or unobtainable in our lifetimes.

I point this out not to put a downer on things, but because it made me realise how important it is that I scrape together as much dosh as I can possibly lay my hands on, blow it on the fastest most outrageous piece of automotive finery I can find, and get it along to Brunters to thrash the nuts off it, while I still can!

Whilst I can try to sympathise with people over noise issues, why anyone would have cared about the noise on Sunday is beyond me. It's not as if they could have been sat in the garden enjoying the country air in the pi$$ing rain!

Did they complain when Bruntingthorpe was an active airport? Do they complain about the extra income brought into the community...

Some people just complain for the hell of it these days.

Seems they go out looking for things to complain about .

People love to complain.

When the company I worked for took over Upper Heyford air base the locals were out with placards over the volume of transporters going through the local village.

Oddly they didnt seem to mind the F1-11's

I've known of people complaining about the noise the gliders were making at the airfield near their house

Its not as though they could go all NIMBY now is it?

Bet the bloody place has been there longer than some of them have, bleedin' do-gooders.

That said;

1) It was VERY windy, taking the sound towards the village (tail wind, so no bad thing)
2) The 355s were VERY loud!

and...

3) Whilst the owner had a word with us, it "wasn't a problem". Hooray!

Are you sure they weren't actually complaining that they couldn't hear enough of the 355s?

In a vaguely related theme, all the way home I kept having to check I was still breathing.

Well, speed does kill as we all know, so there must be 100-odd fewer PH'ers on this mortal coil now...

Agreed, unfortunately as I'm also a pilot I experience this all the time around airports whether they are active or not. These NIMBYs have moved around such airports, but these airports/airfields have been around since WWII and yet they feel they have a right to complain whether its for the good of the community or not. They tend have nothing to do in their lives but complain and these are they same people that are happy to fly out of someone else's airport for their 2 holidays a year

Rant over

All petrolheads should unite and buy all the houses in and around airfields.

We will appriciate the sound of a V12 wailing away at 9k or a F14 buzzing the ATC tower

Problem solved

I was about to post the exact same thing, I feel so inadequate now, I NEED a faster car, it's all I can think about, it really is driving me MAD.

I've had a permanent grin on my face since sunday, I can't wait to do it again. Sunday was right up there with my best days EVER

It's weird, I do truly feel different!

I look at my colleagues and think.. you haven't travelled as fast as me, you haven't experienced all of these wonderful motor cars.. you haven't lived..

It's sad I know, but it feels good!
