VW LUPO / Chimera Headlight wiring information

Some information regarding the VW Lupo headlight conversion which I hope will be of use to others doing this convertion.

The TVR headlight wiring loom is different to the VW application. The VW light unit has a male multi pin block connector on the rear of the headlight unit which is very different from the TVR wiring harness.

One way to join the wiring together requires a new hole to be drilled in the rear of the VW light unit for the end of the TVR wiring harness to enter, then all the wires need to be spliced internally.

To make the whole operation much simpler and neater, I have discovered you can buy from a VW main agent the female multi pin connector end of the VW wiring loom, together with the special internal contact pins and grommets. If you fit the VW multi pin plug to the end of the TVR light harness, it simply clicks into the VW headlight unit, giving a weather proof and reliable connection which can be disconnected if required.

The VW parts and part No. you need are:

Connector 8D0973734 X 2

Wire contacts 000979133E X 4 (these are cut in half to make x 8)

Grommets 357972741B X 8

The TVR harness has four wires on each side of the car, common earth, sidelight, dipped, main beam. The VW unit has seven pins. All of the above, plus 3 x for the headlight load hight levelling motor. This unit is not required on the earlier TVR applications, so can be disregarded.

I am currently investigating this conversion as an option and his is good information as I was wondering about the wiring differences.

Sound like this will make it simpler and more importantly, neater.

thanks for this thread, im in the process of finding a good cerbera but a few ive looked at have dull head light bowls and look like needing replacements in the near future, at a guess the chimaera is the same assembly as the standard cerbera lights and this looks a good option
