Hay guys do any of your Tuscans use a noticable amount of coolant? Mines recentely had a newengine so it may be a jubilee clip loosened of as things have settled in.

I used to have a Saab that "drank" a lot of coolant.
Turned out that it needed a new head gasket.

How much coolant is it using? Are you sure you are not simply filling it to the brim and the coolant is escaping from the filler cap until the correct level remains?

It's tricky to check the water level as you can only see into the neck of the filler, which should have about 10ml of water showing when cold. If it shows this and you drive the car and let the engine warm up fully so both fans will come on and the car does not overheat then it should be fine. Check again when cold and you should see the same amount(10ml) of water in the filler neck.

If you fill it to the brim while cold, and let the car fully warm up it will spit out water from the coolant filler cap until the correct amount remains.

I find my Tuscan has never needed to have a top up of water between services.

I find on my car all I need is a covering of the blue fluid at the bottom of the pipe. When I first got the car I filled it up so the fluid was half way up - and it just p1ssed it out again through the cap after a run.

Cheers,

Andy.

Well the car does not overheat but I still think it is losing coolant I will be keeping a close eye on things as you can imagine.

it could be the front rad hose coming loose or not tight enough so when you stop after a drive the pressurs release causes coolant to leak out of the pipe where its not tight enough.happened to mine after a rebuild.

I think as a peace of mind exercise I will tighten all jubilee clipsthen give the Tusc a good run to get up to temp then park it up overnight with a large sheet o cardboard underneath see what happens as it cools down just out of curiosities sake. Crude yet effective.
