Anyone on here got a GoPro camera??

Im just about to get mine, using it for all-sorts really, trackdays, motocross, aerobatic flying etc.
But need some advice on what Sd card to buy. Class 4 is apparently what i need. Im not really sure how much recording time im looking for, but i cant really imagaine using more than 2 hours at a time. Would a 16GB Kingston SD class 4 be good for what i need? Or would you be tempted to opt for the 32GB?

A 16GB on amazon.com is about 22 ish quid, whereas a 32GB is about £62.

Any ideas on what sort of recording time i would be getting from a 16GB in full 1080p high def recording?

2 16's might be the best bet.....

I have one.

First up... quality is stunning. A really good buy.

The thing with 32gb (which will give you about 2.5 hours I've read - depends on what res you set), is that it takes blimmin' ages to d/load to the computer, and 90% of what you get, you dump anyway.

I have a SanDisk Ultra 16mb (£32?) - and unless you are doing LONG sessions on track, I think will be fine. You do need a fast card though, to avoid jerky footage.

Top tip

When you switch it on... don't keep your finger on the 'on' button too long. If you do it changes mode... then you have to go round the houses to get back to the one you want. (The one you can specify as the startup)

The other thing I'd mention is that the GoPro talks the same language as my Mac without issue, but struggles with my PC.

nice, thanks for the info!

I was thinking the same about the 32gb with the upload time. the only thing is, when I go out on the bike, I could easily use a good hour and a half... I think I might be better off to buy two 16gb's then.

Is there anyway of knowing you have taken up all the memory?

I have a PC, shame as i was going to buy a mac, but decided to save some cash instead! What issues do you get with your PC? Can you recommend any good video editing software (your mac no doubt has one any I guess?)

I've got one also and I went with the 2 x 16GB route as I wanted to play safe by splitting the files across two cards. I have one class 4 and one class 6 SD card and to be honest, the class 4 seems to cope fine when set at 720p with 60fps.

You can use Windows Live Movie Maker (if on Vista or Windows 7 I believe) with them but it's obviously not as good as a package to Adobe/Sony's offerings but for a free app it should get you up and running.

GetCarter makes a valid point about keeping your finger on the button for too long as I've ended up taking random shots when hitting the shutter button expecting to start the filming. Thankfully I've learnt to always check the symbol on the screen before heading off on track/the road.

I've not seen any way of telling how much space you've left on the card I'm afraid so it's case of running it until you see the light go out.

Not got that far... almost certainly not. It's a great camera, but tells you NOTHING!

What issues do you get with your PC?

It's widescreen HD footage, and Windoze Movie Maker (the default download prog on a PC) falls apart at the first fence. Downloading the latest Movie Maker (HD ver) supposedly sorts the problem, though I still found some problems, so I gave up and (as always) Mac does stuff straight away, in a way that a PC never can.

If you don't have a Mac, I'd e mail GoPro and ask which version of what software you need to d/load. They MUST know!

I've got one - never needed more than a 16Gb class 4 and zero problems to date. Brilliant camera for how small and easy it is. I've had some good fun experimenting with mounting positions, rearwards is always interesting:

I edit on a PC with Adobe Premiere Elements - excellent bit of software, no issues with it being on PC. Windoze movie maker will make you feel like its coping, then crash for no reason when you've done a big edit and haven't saved.....premiere elements is well worth its money.

again, cheers guys..

so does the class 4 deal with 1080p? just about to order 2 x kingston class 4 16gb's now....

Ok will look into movie editors, Scott W what is the sony one called? which one do you use?

GetCarter, thanks, emailing GoPro sounds like a plan, they seem to be very helpful in a couple of questions asked already. I will play around with it first and see how my laptop copes with it.

So i can find out if its ran out of memory by looking at the flashing light yea? thats good enough for me.

Can't wait to get it and play around with it, hopefully I will have it tomorrow :-)

The class 4 deals with 1080 without any problems. I just chose 720 for the better frame rate when I used it last along with the wider angle.

The Sony package is Vegas 9 and is supposed to be OK. I'm using a Microsoft package at the moment that allows me to export the footage in to a Silverlight format as I found using a Flash based file format ruined some of the clarity. However, this is because I'm hosting the videos on my own site and not YouTube. Another reason I'm using this package is because I got it free from work but it's not a proper editor as such. If you wanted to get some footage where you are adding text, audio and so on to it then I'd go down the Adobe route as I've used their package before and it was excellent. Once I get to the stage of wanting to do more with my videos this is the route I'll be going down and then converting them to a Silverlight/similar format.

I'd be interested to know what GoPro say to you though!

elements is very easy to use - you can edit in a very easy "movie maker" style, but have access to all sorts of advanced functions and nice effects too....it also does an "auto movie" which simply slaps together your clips and does some transitions etc....

I just checked, my card is a class 6, not a 4....I'd go for a 6.

hi guys...

So... i got a bit desperate, and went out that day and bought Adobe Elements, just because i got news my GoPro was arriving the next day (mate was bringing it back from the states).

I have an issue though, i dont know if ithas something to do with my settings.
Basically the videos play when i open them in the default player (Microsoft movie player) and all acts fine. If i then stick them in Elements and try and watch them, they skip, like the frame rate is super slow. I have no idea why, and have messed around with it to no avail. Has anyone else using Elements had this issue?
I have noticed that GoPro records in MP4 format, this doesnt seem to be listed as an reconised format in Elements,. could this be the issue? i would have thought it should be included though!!
