My Nissin Di866 flash just turned up.

This is equivelant to the canon 580exII, similar power, wireless ETTL, intresting subflash. Not as weatherproof and I dont get as much in menu on camera control.

Seems built well enough , the zoom is noisy but I can live with that!

Operation looks complex tho!

Col works off camera well.

Thanks for the post. I have been looking at that flash for my 450D. The spec is pretty good and the price even better.

I saw a review of that in a mag a few months back. Got very good feedback.

If you don't mind using it in manual mode only a Nikon SB-28 is a very cheap and well made speedlight. about £80-£100.

How does the build compare to the Canon flashes? I found mine (Canon) to be disappointingly flimsy and nowhere near the standard of the camera.

I believe the hotshoe connection on the Nissin is plastic and the Canon metal, Rob will correct me if I'm wrong. Having said that, the mount on both my Canon lenses, 18-55 and 55-250 is plastic.

Build seems pretty good, had been told the battery compartment was flimsy, seems OK.

The connections (PC,usb, battery) is rubber sealed but I dont think the whole thing is vry weatherproof like a 580 and yes the mount is plastic, but then plastic isnt always a bad thing.
