Hi All,

My old man is having an absolute knightmare.

The poor guy has one key for his 2002 S-class, and he locked it in the boot.

The AA man has been over and opened the car doors, but the there is no way of opening the boot.

They got a key, which only opens the doors, so the boot does not open, and the car does not start!

A lock smith came over and was unable to open the boot!

Is there any way through the back seats in these cars?

Modern cars and their stupid locking systems!

Cheers,
BM

Might want to post in the Merc section (A few merc staff post there and probably have a better answer for you)

I would suggest you contact a local dealer......... or a scouser.

Is there really no button in the cabin to open the boot? Blimey.

Does it have a ski hatch behind the rear arm rest?

If it has vacuum central locking and you can get to the pipes you should be able to pop it by sucking on the correct path, if you can get to the pump. On the old W210 E this was under the seat.

I believe the MB last resort is to go in through the rear light cluster.

Thanks so far chaps. (I will also paste this into the merc section).

The AA man could not find any form of Ski hatch- (I am in London, and they are way up north).

The door release button only does the 4 doors, not the boot.

He is off to merc to see what he can do.

Terrible amount of work for such an easy mistake.

Nice little money spinner for Merc though. I bet he's looking at £200 min, new key etc.

Serious suggestion - obviously the rear seats don't tilt forward, but what about unbolting them? Perhaps unbolt the rear bench, then that would reveal the bottom bolts for the rear upright back seats which could then be unbolted? Don't know the S-class at all, but just a thought smile

Not a bad idea but I bet the bolts are in the boot!

All you'll achieve is discovering what the rear bulkhead looks like.

Indeed. Rear bulk head, then fuel tank, then metal panel over fuel tank, then boot carpet.

Not sure where the central locking pump is on a w220, but on it predecessor, the w140, it was under the rear seat. Long shot, but you may be able to swap pipes over to get the pump to operate the boot?

Best place to ask would be on the w220 section of the Benzworld forum.

Ah, this may be helpful

This takes two people to do. Once you are in the car you can go under the rear passenger seat and go into the fuse box. Your partner will have to pull the trunk release on your driver's door at the same time you pull and reinstall a certain fuse. Do to safety issues on this forum I can't tell you exactly which fuse but your local MBZ dealer can tell you.

I had to do this when I locked my only key in the trunk after playing golf and dropped my clubs in and slammed the trunk shut.

Good Luck

Most good diagnostics have component activation built in, so with the power on, you'd just select flip the boot locking actuator, and it'll open.

Most Mercs have a boot release switch on the window switches, otherwise Merc assit will come out if he has had it serviced at the main dealers.

Looks like its going to be an Merc assit jobby.

Problem is he is going for the weekend, and had the S-class loaded up.

Never mind, he is heading down in my mums Nissan Note- expect to see one unhappy dad, and the Merc to be sorted next week.

Cheers Chaps,

Merc assist will usual turn up within the hour, it is only some mechanic from the nearest main dealer.

Surely this is a car that has one of those electrically opening boots, with a boot-release button in the cabin. Even my other-half's 2001 Focus has a boot release button in the cabin!

Even my Eunos has a bloody boot release from the cabin.

Its a pain in the ass because you cant leave anything remotely valuable in the boot.

Why cant you drill out the lock bit where you put the key in, open the boot, and then replace the barrell? just a thought.
